Not as mighty leader? HMMMMMMMM, Your fired not really but still. In all seriousness though the Nicknames seem within reason... I mean Nicknames are a part of military culture just about. Also RIP Johnny Rico. Your one of those few guys who I will actually miss with those names. You were awesome mate!

Re: Naming rules are becoming more RP-centric
I think it's better to give your character a nickname, it's easier to call you(and type on the keyboars) instead of calling by the full name.Zegara wrote:since musashi miyamoto was a famous samurai i cant use miyamoto can i?
I suggest to have the shorter version of your name as your nickname (like "Musa", "Moto" ir "Miya") or based on the japabese ancestry/nationality ("jap", "shogun",...)

If it isn't a famous western name, most people won't know who they are.

A good rule of thumb might be: If the Google'd name pops up on Wikipedia, it can't be used.

Then I'm good! No Wikipedia page for Jack Bright.
And if you go make one, I will hunt you down.

Wow, lets see what other established characters will be detected by a search on literally the largest free data miner in the world.
Literally all of them.
If it exists, odds are, Google will find it.

I would say, not that the person's name shows up on wikipedia, because there are a lot of names in wikipedia, and that doesn't necessarily make them famous. It kinda depends. Video Game characters, movie characters, actors, famous inventors, would probably be off limits. Lesser known inventors, or businessmen, should be allowed, as it is highly likely no one will recognise any of them. It really just depends.

Re: Naming rules are becoming more RP-centric
I've only had the origin of my characters name noted about three times in the several years I've played SS13. Most people don't even know what SCP is.
That's not to say some servers don't know exactly what my character has DONE on there...

I actually don't mind the whole "Nicknames"... I find some of them are awful though.
This guy recently playing is Joe "Ken" Kent, he's pretty much the fucking MOON MOON o CM.

It's not that bad it's just Kent without the T it's a lot better then having a nickname be "Beast" Or "Scrub"Pink wrote:I actually don't mind the whole "Nicknames"... I find some of them are awful though.

Yes, Granted it may not be the greatest nickname to be used but at least you can say it in a hurry.

Well, I just looked up my character's name, "Alex Graves".
He's a director and producer of Game of Thrones... I have no idea who he is.

Re: Naming rules are becoming more RP-centric
Some people are gonna have the same names, I just discovered that there is a detective character in a book series by Robert Patterson called Alex Cross. Frankly, most people have probably had at least a similar name to you before, so long as it's not a mega popular/ well known character, it shouldn't really be a problem.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

What is the rule stance on one word names? Are they fine, or should all players have at least two names with an optional nickname?

I have to agree, no more cringing over a man named Spayce Mahrin.
