- We are being targetted by the FFF because we are a "top server". They seek to use us as an example of a server that will either "cave" or as a cautionary tale.
- I have negotiated a "truce". In a few days, someone will create a discussion topic about adding Tajarn or other furry races to CM as playable races. We will keep this discussion troll and grief free, and as respectful as possible. The goal will be to see if our community actually feels like Furry races should be added. The purpose of this is twofold:
- This will hopefully show the FFF that they don't need to use violent griefing tactics in order to be taken seriously. Hopefully, they will give us the same respect we are giving them if the decision is made against them.
- This will give me time. As many of you know, I am former Military Intelligence and we have a few staff that are former law enforcement and military. I have sent messages to some of my friends who are working in law enforcement and the government and I'm waiting replies. In case talks break down.
- I fully expect the community to be against it, and I'm HOPING that they give us the respect and consideration we are giving them and move on and not continue to harass us. In case that fails, I am preparing defenses. I am not going to go into details, but I'm installing software to protect us on the VPS and alerted out hosting service to the threat.
- I expect that we are going to have to weather a MASSIVE shitstorm. While I am taking precautions, there are always ways around. For every person who finds a way to prevent someone from doing something, 5 more find ways around it.
1. I am going to enable a time-lock on roles with access to explosives
2. I am working on an anti-spam automatic mute system for chat. basically, if the same phrase is broadcast more than 3 times or if more than 2 messages are sent in under a second, it will automaically mute the person from everything except ahelps (to prevent false positives)
3. I am going to adjust the rockets so they no longer function on the Sulaco at all, same with grenade launchers.
4. I am going to have process air automatically disable at the start of round, and remain disabled for the first 30 minutes of each round.
5. We have the "Multi-keyer" super-thead. ANYONE who think is multikeying to grief, put their name into that thread. This is a KEY part of our defense. If I am able to get enough IPs, I can correlate which VPN service they are using, and block that entire service.
6. They "claim" they have sleeper agents in several servers and working as mods and admin almost everywhere. We are going to lock our shit down. There will be an activity check soon and everyone will have 72 hours to reply to be removed from staff.
Actions YOU can take, and precautions you MUST take:
1. Adjust your password for the forums to be more secure. At least: 1 capital, 1 lower-case, 1 special character, 1 number and 8 characters long. I'm going to be being brute-force testing passwords for everyone sometime soon. If I can break your password, so can a hacker.
2. If someone breaches on the Sulaco or as grief, use Debug - Kill Air This verb *should* be usable by all levels.
3. I'm adding 2 new verbs, Fix Breach Floor and Fix Breach Wall. ALWAYS use floor first, then use wall on top of it. As a bonus, the turf will automatically generate air to repressurize the area.
4. If the FFF attack and start spamming, IMMEDIATLY turn off joining under the server controls. This will limit their ability to get back in while minimizing game impact. After about 10 or so minutes, turn joining back on. And repeat as necessary.
5. Tell them if this wish to negotiate or discuss demands, to contact [email protected], ColonialMarines the Byond key, or Apophis775 the Byond key. Noone other than myself, Skinner, and Rahlzel are authorized to negotiate any terms on behalf of CM.
We can take a unified stance and minimize the effects of their violent and cowardly actions, but we must be a UNITED FRONT and we must all WORK TOGETHER. This means, that we need admins to spend more time on the server and monitoring skype so they can be called quickly.
