Alien: Covenant (The Sequel to the Prequel of Alien, followed by its Predecessor, Aliens) Discussion - BEFORE RELEASE

Post by completelynewguy » 09 May 2017, 00:20

Thoughts on Alien: Covenant before it drops in about 2 weeks after this post?

I think the trailers managed to do their thing of enraging the nerds and encapsulating the normies. Aside from that, I think it'll be fine if I go in with the mindset of "Alien, but with a little bit more sex and actual guns."

It's a movie yes. Is it relevant to the alien series people actually care about? Not so much.

Probably best to think of everything that isn't Alien or Aliens as 'different series all together that does not in any way relate to the aforementioned movies'.
Garth Pawolski, or is it Powalski?

Movie comes out under two days in Australia.

Reviewers seem to like it overall.

I'll likely be watching it.

That just sounds like such a basic generalization and blanket statement, it just seems close minded. It isn't even out yet, we've only gotten the typical hollywood trailer tropes. We should honestly at least wait for the movie to come out before you decide it's shit already.

I'll probably be watching it, however I'm not a fan of the whole neomorph thing. Sure it's interesting or whatever but I like my slick black xenomorphs not these pale looking mofos. Where's the spooky in that?

Alien Resurrection was the best movie in the franchise. Like with that black guy dying
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I'm disinterested due to the fact that it's supposed to set up the events that happen in Alien. That means that everyone is going to die, and the ending will probably just show the space jockey that the Nostromo crew finds landing where he landed rather than setting up an interesting story with new characters. If those characters are as stupid as the Prometheus cast, I know I will like it even less. I would have much rather had a story set in an undetermined time with the rest of the movies, featuring a cast and events that don't feel like they're supposed to prop up the backstory of a movie I actually care about.

The neomorphs are actually the spawns of the Deacock, or Jockmorph.

Movie raises far more questions and it barely answers any questions.

I liked it overall, but I do find it questionable how it treats the incubation period.

One guy gets facehugged and seemingly bursts barely ten or twenty minutes after being infected. Another guy somehow survives being facehugged (his hand blocked the hugger and he, with another person's help, was able to cut off the hugger) yet despite the hugger only being attached for literally less than five seconds he gets infected and bursts, but he takes about a day or less to burst.

Really all over the place in that regard.

E: Does this film need to exist? I feel it kinda ruins the tension and suspense of the Aliens, and honestly the story of how the Xenomorphs were created strikes me as a story that we don't need to know.

Well, I think that makes sense. The facehugger doesn't implant a living embryo inside the host, it basically gives the host a virus that causes to cells of the hosts body to form into the larva, like a cancer. It's understandable then that if the hugger was on for a short time it couldn't inject as much so the guy didn't burst as fast while the guy who had it on until it died bursted much faster.

Honestly I just hope it's not as bad as Resurrection. If it's better then that it gets my OK atleast
