The lead writer for the Half Life series posted the entire story of Half Life Three/ Half Life 2 Episode Three on his blog.

Originally everything had its name altered, but someone went through and changed the names to their original Half Life appearances.

After having read the pastebin, I have to admit, that is an interesting plot to follow. The ending specifically with Alyx, though I find Gordon's ending to be a little on the lackluster side, but that is not a "awful" ending to the series.

At least, if it had released on time as Ep. 3 so many years ago. If released now, people would be incredibly dissatisfied with the ending due to the long wait (it would also be dependent on how the game played as well, were there new concepts introduced, were they successful, etc?). I feel, now and with however long it would take to make and release the game, it would have to be a *major* overhaul and feel completely new and fresh to successfully turn a profit.

Also, it might just be too large a risk honestly. If it was unsuccessful the backlash would be huge, though, seeing as how Valve has a vice-like grip on the realm of easy-to-access PC gaming through Steam, they could probably shrug off most of it.

actually, valve can be sitting on his own for literally a decade without doing nothing and still not suffer a inch in the economic department.
