Is getting Windows 10 worth it?

Post by Renomaki » 09 Jul 2018, 18:21

Some time ago, my brother made mention that Windows 7 is going to have updates discontinued, which worries me because it could make it more vulnerable to... uncomforting elements out there.

However, as a gamer, I'm worried about how Windows 10 will affect the performance of my PC vidya. I heard a lot of bad things about compatibility, and I don't want games I bought JUST RECENTLY to be made worthless piles of data because Windows 10 can't handle it. And that isn't even diving into the other "controversies" related to 10.

However, I don't want to risk my OS being more open to bad mojo, and Malewarebytes can only handle so much... So for my coming birthday, I'm wondering if I should ask me pa to help me get 10 this month or not?

Hence why I ask you lot, assuming some of you to be tech wizards who might know a thing or two.

Aside from some annoying bloatware shenanigans I really haven't had many issues with windows 10. Also it doesn't quite have the performance on my computer that 7 had after I had trimmed both down a bunch.

Unfortunate that they are going to stop updating 7, it's a really great OS.

The only problem I’ve had with windows 10 is windows defender, but I fixed that so. The lack of issues might also be because I have windows 10 pro.

NO DO NOT GET WINDOWS 10

A problem that I frequently run into is a big popup that blocks off my entire screen telling me "Hey, you need to fucking update you dumb cunt." I ignore it and hit "schedule for later".
Then the next day it comes up again and I hit "schedule for later" again, planning to never do it.

I go to check settings and I find out that many many versions ago they removed the feature on the non-pro version of windows 10 to stop automatic update popups (Or to stop automatic updates from happening.) So I figure I'm stuck with hitting "Wait until later" until it pops up at an actually convenient time instead of right in the middle of me doing something.

This goes on for a week and the popup only comes up in the most inopportune times and I continue the routine of delaying until one day it comes up without an option to reschedule. At all. It tells me that it will update it ten minutes and there's jack shit I can do about it. Ten minutes pass, my computer restarts and after ALMOST THREE HOURS it finally comes back online with some stupid update to windows defender that I have done everything in my power to disable.

ALSO

Every fifteen fucking minutes it seems like I get an annoying ping and popup from the bottom right of my screen about the windows firewall and defender being disabled that sometimes FREEZES and doesn't go away, and every time I open up a game I get a pop up also. It's shit, basically overpriced malware and the fact that this garbage was FORCEFULLY installed onto some people's computers is a disgusting affront to God and everything holy and I fucking hate it.

---

The elements that it will become more vulnerable to aren't something to worry about so much, and it's not like windows defender is worth its weight in jack shit for stopping anything from harming your PC in the first place.

tl;dr I fucking hate windows 10 with every fibre of my being and if it was up to me I'd execute the disgusting excuses for humans that pushed it

(maybe that was a bit harsh but I still don't like it)

I had windows 10 come with my new computer and spent several months fighting it. First it was the forced updates, then it was random restarts (probably related to the way I dealt with the forced updates), and led to me turning off a shitton of things I probably shouldn't have and simply ignoring any windows defender popups. I had a similar experience to Noah in pure rage inducing torment and hatred for microsoft and humanity in general after being randomly reset in the middle of something important (be it writing a paper, playing a game, or staring at your desktop, windows updates gives no shits and saves nothing).

I miss old windows.

It's not good, it's not horrible, it's Windows 10. Don't get it unless you need it for whatever reason.
