The backstory is well written if agreeably a bit longer than average as others have mentioned. Many minor details strown throughout could be omitted to cut down to a more lean structure, however the way the fight actually proceeded was interestingly different. The focus on the weapon your predator used echoed against the rest of the story's theme, and gave an air of consistency that made it enjoyable to read.
