Oda Tau'sta (Little Rage)

Post by Musely » 27 Nov 2017, 17:10

Byond ID: Musely

Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here): George Best (retired), Billy Carson (retired) and now William Washington.

Name of the character you want whitelisted (The name your predator will use. This must match your in-game predator name): Oda Tau'sta (Little Rage)

Are you familiar with the Predator Code Of Honor?

I've read and understand the different etiquette to follow for different situations and circumstances.

Character background (An ADEQUATE description and story of your predators background):

Oda, like most of his kind, spent his formative years as an un-blooded training with his clanmate group of eighteen. He was always shorter than the rest of his kind, which had him forever on the defensive from the bigger Yautja who thought him an easy way to build themselves a ruthless reputation. It took him longer than most to finally master hand-to-hand training and longer still to be accepted along to a hunt on a seeded world, for he relied entirely on his hot-tempered over-aggression to keep pace with his fellows. As a result, on his first hunt, he'd allowed himself to be baited by the xenomorphs so much so that by the end, he'd lost what weapons he'd had, thoughtlessly collapsed the chamber he'd been lured into with a predator mine onto himself and was forced to drag himself clear of the rubble and back to his compatriots after the fighting had come to an end. This time they looked down on him not because of his diminished height, but because of his lack of hunting finesse. They knew his boiling blood caused him to over-extend and had seen the explosion from where he was last headed bury him, but they could not deny him his kills nor his fury-driven resolve to keep up with his more capable kin. He survived his wounds that day through sheer force of will.

He had been among the last of his clanmate group to complete the fundamentals of training and on his first hunt had barely walked away with his life, but he'd made his kills and saw to the bare minimum expected of him and on that day became a Young Blood.

How do you intend to play your predator (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your predator)?

Ideally I'd be playing with other predators, as I very much see Oda as a Yautja who always perceives himself as a lesser warrior who constantly has to prove himself. This would entail trying to constantly one-up other predators and perhaps occasionally bring him into conflict with them via honour duels, but I'd prefer to keep this as a rare enough thing for the sake of gameplay sensibility. Outside of that, I'd like to keep the characteristics laid out in his story when dealing with marines and xenos. Not the brightest or most thoughtful predator, I'd like to portray him as allowing himself to be baited, which from a gameplay standpoint would generally involve throwing Oda into situations where is he out-numbered or even out-classed as a way to reinforce the idea that he's got a deep inferiority complex that he feels he needs to constantly challenge to prove himself capable to his peers. I don't see Oda surviving most of his encounters, nor would retreat be commonly forthcoming unless he's at a very critical level where his capacity to fight properly is compromised. I do want to make a distinction between suicidal charges and putting yourself in the path of challenging but not impossible odds. He isn't setting out to die, he's setting out to do better than his fellow predators, but because of his hot-headedness and his shorter-stature, his ego may prove greater than his endurance.

Why should we whitelist you?

I try to always make situations more interesting for all involved, but beyond that, I'm genuinely a very thoughtful roleplayer who has been doing it for over a decade at this point from dozens of different character perspectives. I'm generally very accommodating to other peoples ideas as to how they want a situation/roleplay to go down, as most of my roleplay enjoyment comes out of seeing others walk away from it satisfied in one way or another. Billy Carson was my foray into a more slapstick comedic roleplay role to liven situations up and inject some humour into what can be sometimes repetitive rounds, but I've retired him to focus on William which is my return back into a more serious roleplaying mindset.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?

No, and don't believe I've ever been banned period.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?

No and have never been banned.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or disobey the Predator Code of Honor?

Yes. I've given the rules a good going over and they make sense, so understand breaking them will mean my characters termination.

Personally running around as Billy Carson to meme Bill Carsons name doesn't look to well on you.

That's why I retired the character, but it stemmed from a round with multiple Carsons running around and Bill's player mentioning that he'd be happy to pretend other "Carson" characters were related to his. I thought the family dynamic was fun but we rarely interacted anyway due to timezone differences I suppose. I certainly had fun interactions with other characters though as a result of pretending to be his cousin and such so I can't regret it too much.

Not the worst application, especially from a 1st poster. But, it's still sub-par to what I would deem acceptable. Mostly because of how the playstyle is very, very, very, very, stupid. And how inaccurate to the lore it would be. The reason they have the Rite of Passage is to kill off the weak Yautja. And separate the strong from the weak. An idiot running around, accidentally killing xenomorphs. Isn't a trophy. It's a kill. If anything, I'd believe the Clan Leader would have you exiled for just being that bad.

Seriously, not only does it not work lore wise. It just wouldn't be fun in-game. We don't want to exclude anyone from the whitelist. But we find ourselves only being able to be a predator every 4 rounds or so. And there's only 3 slots available. To only be used up by a predator that doesn't even contribute to roleplay (because he just died few minutes into the round)? And is more of a joke and funny "ha, ha" rather than an actual predator. "I don't see Oda surviving most encounters," death is a part of roleplay and happens often as a Pred. But to die quickly is ehh.

I do like the fact his personality is hot-headed, he's rash and likes to fight even in bad odds. Try and make that work for you. It sounds like an interesting concept. If I recommended anything make your predator instinctual. They don't think things through and just use brute strength to win their fights. It'd make for an interesting concept. But as of now. I have to give a -1.

Not much to say, aside from I've never really seen you RP that well, as Billy, George or such. -1 from me

I really hoped I had stressed that his hot-headedness wouldn't mean I was going to toss him into impossible odds, only challenging situations. I don't think myself or others playing would find much pleasure in Oda dying in a short span of time. I was trying to convey more than anything that he is a below average predator who is shorter, less physically and mentally capable, but with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. The piece about him being baited and collapsing the room was an attempt to indicate something to that effect.

I appreciate your input, especially about making the predator instinctual. I do really like the more refined concept you've suggested, keeping the temper but losing the unthinking bull-headedness. I'll try to rework my story when I get some spare time, or for the next time I can apply, looking at the way things are going.

To me its sorta meh, but you quite well known among the community however activity in forums is quite concerning. As well, your "Memey" well Billy Carson at times might have its golden moments but it seems rather forced every time. Especially when you are important roles from what I noticed, quite not well experiences. Unsure, even if the intent of the character was more humorous unsure if Predator sort would be a role that could be entrusted or uncertain if you able to uphold with much maturity. I'd give few more months, get more to server not a huge fan of such dickish motives or such not really looking good. Gonna be going -1.
"Young Carrier (920) (follow) hisses, "Shut up both of you or we aren't going to invade disneyland."

Long time ago, I, Ka'Torag-na Halkrath, Skilled Master Hunter Of Prey, Unleashed an unspeakable evil upon Xenos and Humans! But a foolish Xeno Hunter wielder of robustness stepped forth and opposed me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore a gate of Salt of Solitude and flung em into the world of CM, and took out their Facehugger Capabilities! Now, this Xeno Fool seeks to return the favour, and undo my evil reign and of many other predator predecessors!
