It's gonna be hard to replace SS13 even if they finish it.

SS13 is a real meme. I'm not sure if any meme can stand up to it even if it looks decent there's things about Byond that give it this special feel I can't explain it I'm just a meme.

It looks pretty neat.
Especially with all the content they already have and the fact they're not aiming for the something unachievable.
Fuck it, Im backing it.

Your money, but I still advise against it. The Curse hasn't failed yet.solidfury7 wrote:It looks pretty neat.

Curse won't lift unless people support a project that can see it through. You won't actually know that unless you fund it and let them develop. What a situation you find yourself in, huh?
I backed it because I'm hopeful and it's only $25 for Alpha + Full Copy.

The creator of Dayz heard about the curse and personally funded ION with tons of money, another game meant to be like SS13. Curse apparently got it too. I'm not usually a superstitious person, but it seems this is more than superstition.SylasTG wrote:Curse won't lift unless people support a project that can see it through. Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
Yeah that I can definitely agree on. But can we be honest about these development teams? They don't have the same vision the people behind SS13 did. To them it has to be balanced, lacking all the shitters we have in SS13, and maybe even include micro. A lot of these projects fail because they try to emulate SS13 instead of building upon its concepts and making their own "standalone" version of SS13. At least that's how I see it.Boltersam wrote:The creator of Dayz heard about the curse and personally funded ION with tons of money, another game meant to be like SS13. Curse apparently got it too. If worse comes to worse and it isn't funded then no harm no foul for me. I didn't give them anything, "yet".

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
There's no curse it's just they lose motivation in mid-development probably. Happens a lot, big ambitious projects emerge and they are making a ton of progress early on then as the game gets bigger they lose motivation. SS13 seems easy to recreate cause it's just 2d spessmen but then they realise how hard it is and give up.

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
This might be biased and ignorant, but I can't/won't accept a game to be the "New SS13".
SS13 is . . . oh boy, let me get a little sentimental. SS13 is so, distinct, I guess would be the word, now. To people who have been around playing SS13 since it started (I am not one of them), its . . . the only SS13. While each server has there own graphics style and unique features, its still recognizable as SS13 on some base level.
Could you think of playing a game like EVA and *TRULY* consider it SS13 2.0? Something so distinctive and . . . not SS13, would be its own game. I don't feel like players could ever correlate SS13 to any of the clones or reboots or remakes throughout the years.
Was that phrased correctly so that everyone understood?

I definitely see your point and considering that I wouldn't want SS13 to be replaced but... a Spiritual Successor to SS13 wouldn't hurt at all.Snypehunter007 wrote:This might be biased and ignorant, but I can't/won't accept a game to be the "New SS13".

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
It doesn't look terrible, but based on how little support has been shown so far, versus the usual population on Space Sation 13 servers, I don't think it's going to go anywhere. A shame, the concept isn't bad especially if they could take the Space Station 13 formula and somehow improve on it, like Colonial MArines here or even Fallout 13

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
SS13 is nigh-uncloneable mostly because of how it was cobbled together. If a regular game is a car, then SS13 is a Megas XLR style mecha cobbled together from various pieces of scrap and lesser mechas. All of the tiny player made additions to it over the year have made it into a monster of a project that would take tons of hard work and labor just to rebuild some of it's more basic systems (atmospherics for one)

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
Looks neat, wouldn't say it's SS13 2.0 or anything but uh... I don't think it's gonna make it. I personally won't donate due to kickstarter's very *cough* wobbly history. Good luck getting a finished game though.

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
I don't think recreating SS13 is impossible, but... It's certainly not happening in the next five years. Not to mention that the kickstarter doesn't appear to have had much traction, the player base is too small to get a good outcome on such a demanding requirement.

Re: EVA (SS13 clone in kickstarter)
Well, it's a lot more graphically and interface friendly. Seriously that video had such a natural and more distinct feeling of an actual game. I mean SS13's actual creation is a funny one, the whole literal theft of the code on a USB, said thief sells it. And that's how SS13 was born, I don't think SS13 isn't friendly to those who play due to it's rather unattractive aesthetic and clunky interface; however I still think that the creation of EVA or at least development, if it were to succeed would more then guarantee the growth of SS13's community. I'd abandon BYOND in a heartbeat if EVA is successful, hell, maybe it'd make developing new material for different servers easier? I mean it could, I don't got the faintest clue as to how SS13's coding works. But I'd bet it'd be a lot less wonky to code for a game that was made in 2017 then one that was made in like 2003?
Of course the people expanded upon the amazing work and features that the original code was, but one can only do so much with something that was made about 14 years ago. I mean there's a game being developed that's literally a MMORPG named Identity that's being developed by a Asylum Entertainment, and if you look at it. It's nearly the same thing, expect more complicated and in a 3D world. It's not that the community is small, it's that the development team doesn't put themselves out there in my opinion.
Anyway, I've monologue'd long enough. I don't believe this curse is real, I believe charismatic approaches can help with the development of a game and the spread of the word can too. Sadly it won't be successful considering they got 14 days to meet the goal of $30,000.

It doesn't say anything about clunky controls, does not have verbs, unattractive 2d Spessmen look or even have terrible Byond Coding, it won't replace SS13 as SS13 is superior in all its clunky glory
