Star Citizen: Will it Crash or Will it Succeed?

Let me start off my explaining what this game is, and if you haven't heard of it, what have you been doing? Star Citizen is a MASSIVE Open-World Space Exploration Game. People have donated around 77 million dollars to this game, and it's still in Alpha. So far, the game looks very promising. This could be one of the biggest games, in budget, map size, and even the amount of free space this will likely require. One problem I have, however, is the micro-transactions. The micro-transactions for this game allows you to buy multiple ships before the game even comes out. Some of these ships are very expensive, a few passing 500 dollars. Yes, I understand why some people would buy ships before release, as they would like a head-start on the game, but personally, I'd like to buy my ships with the in-game currency, as that would feel like more of an achievement. Just picture seeing a huge ship pass your tiny fighter, and you make your own goal to get enough money to buy said ship. After hours of putting time into getting money, you finally have enough to buy it. You order your ship, and you travel to the nearest space station to pick it up. You arrive at the station, put the ship name into the computer, and you walk to the hangar and see your brand new ship. That sounds like a more entertaining goal then working at your job or asking your parents to give you 400 dollars for a ship in a video game, doesn't it? My question is, however, is what are guys thinking about this game? Are you looking forward to it? Are you hating it? I am quite interested what people of the CM community think about this game.

I've read what direction the developer hopes to take the game in the future. Sounds great in theory, and while I'm not necessarily a huge fan of paying up to a hundred bucks for a top of the line virtual spaceship, I think they've been doing a wonderful job of actually making that hundred dollar video game spessship worth your hundred dollars. Think Pulsar: Lost Colony but as an MMO.
