Barotrauma
http://undertowgames.com/barotrauma/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utb01pz6t4c
Barotrauma takes place several hundred years in the future. In this time, humanity has established several colonies on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons.
Due to the deadly amounts of radiation on the surface of the moon, the colonies are constructed under its icy crust. The vast subsurface ocean under the crust is used as a transport route between the colonies and a source of natural resources. In Barotrauma, the player will step into the boots of a recruit on board a submarine traveling in the subsurface ocean. The player’s job is to keep the submarine operational, while carrying out various tasks to earn funds for buying supplies and hiring new crew members. Maintaining and operating the submarine itself isn’t the only challenge, as the ocean is filled with bizarre creatures ranging from harmless small fish to gigantic Lovecraftian horrors more than capable of destroying the entire vessel.
The game can be played either in single player mode in which the player can choose which crew member to control (others being controlled by AI), and an online multiplayer mode where each player controls one of the crew members.
The game is being developed using the MonoGame framework, with physics provided by Farseer Physics Engine and networking by Lidgren.Network.
Features
- Multiple character classes with different skill sets and responsibilities on board the vessel
- All the characters, items, devices and machines are configured in .xml files that can be edited or added by anyone
- Procedurally generated underwater environments
- A built-in editor that allows designing and building new submarines
- Wiring and electricity system that allows building complex devices, similar to Redstone in Minecraft or MechComp in SS13
- Water physics that simulate pressure, buoyancy and forces caused by flowing water
- Procedurally animated physics-based ragdoll characters
My reaction to this game
This game is pretty cool. I haven't gotten to play around with it too much, but it has a lot of potential and I thought y'all should know about it.

Looking at it on the surface, looks reminiscent of fallout shelter.

Re: Barotrauma
Tried this today solo and with HalfdeadKiller and GracieGrace0. Was hella fun, especially when we decided to test out the c4 and utterly demolished the submarine.
Would be really neat to get a few more people on so we can try out the traitor mode.

I tried this out last night and it was pretty awesome. There are no multiplayer servers though so it would be real neat if we could organise something.

Yeah, this game is tons of fun, but the lack of servers is annoying.

10/10
Got banned from a game because apparently using my usual username was not acceptable to the host, if there were more actual servers and some more things to do on the sub it would be much better than it already is.

Re: Barotrauma
If it lacks a server, you can always petition for one to be hosted under CM by Apophis or Rahlzel. Get a large player base of support, all who want it hosted by CM, and make a petition and it might become a thing.

I ignored the most basic Submarine rule and I don't close the airlocks behind you, sea monster cracks open hull and entire Sub is flooded killing me and my mates.
10/10 would die again.

To be fair, subs without automatic flood doors are terrible subs.RuiXon wrote:I ignored the most basic Submarine rule and I don't close the airlocks behind you, sea monster cracks open hull and entire Sub is flooded killing me and my mates.

Someone said that you can hook up a water detector to the buttons and have the wiring setup so that when it goes off the button toggles. Not sure though, not a good enough Mechanic.wastedfate wrote:To be fair, subs without automatic flood doors are terrible subs.

Re: Barotrauma
Cool fact: Monsters detect the sub by the noise the engines and reactor make. If running silent, they can't hear you, and can only see you if they have eyes. Useful for avoiding some of the nastier beasties.

The sonar pinging also gives you away, the huge tentacle monster that rams with its head uses the sonar pings to find you.

The molochs, ya. Real nasty buggers, you're forced to navigate blindly unless you want it to tear your ship to pieces.RuiXon wrote:The sonar pinging also gives you away, the huge tentacle monster that rams with its head uses the sonar pings to find you.

Re: Barotrauma
It honestly depends who's on and what time you play.Barotrauma has a pretty shitty way of dealing with griefing and due to how easy it is to do it greifers run rampant. The only person who can currently ban is the host and if the griefer lags out before the host logs on nothing can be done. The only way to do something as a player right now is to vote to kick. This does nothing though as they just rejoin.Best chances are to play when the host is one(that being landongam3r)as less grief is almost a guaranteeWarnipple wrote:I joined and played today and it seemed like an endless grief fest.

You can set up just about anything you can imagine, since the the game allows any combination of gate logic. It's just a matter of knowing how.RuiXon wrote:Someone said that you can hook up a water detector to the buttons and have the wiring setup so that when it goes off the button toggles.
