X-COM: Colonial Marines

Post by DernSquirrels^3 » 28 Jan 2016, 17:58

Hello everyone, it's me, Dern. You may or may not know me. I started this thread to see if anyone would be interested in watching me do a playthrough of OpenXcom, which is an open source clone of the first ever XCOM game, UFO: Enemy Unknown. (X-COM: UFO Defense as it's known in the states) This source port allows greater modding of the game and fixes numerous bugs, exploits, and annoyances that the original game had. Enemy Unknown is notoriously difficult (its sequel, Terror From the Deep being even harder) but I believe that allows for more !FUN! I will be using the following mods.

MODS:
FInal Mod Pack (Overhauls the entire X-COM game by compiling various mods into one mega mod pack. This completely redos the research tree and adds many new weapons, armor, aircraft, etc. not available before.)
HWP - X-COM ENFORCER (Adds a Heavy Weapons Platform based off of the title character from the game X-COM: Enforcer
Commendations (Used to be apart of the Soldier Diaries mod, which has since been merged in the new nightly builds, this mod allows soldiers to be awarded medals based on what they do in the field)
FMP High Quality Sounds (Adds higher quality sounds)

RULES:
1. We will be playing on Veteran Ironman difficulty
2. You can submit name suggestions for soldiers/bases/aircraft, but keep the suggestions limited to one per post
3. Do not expect me to keep your character alive. Defending the Earth will be a fight to the death and there WILL be casualties
4. I'm only human. Don't expect me to be great at this game
5. You're allowed to suggest what to research

Go for it man! I personally enjoy X-com, it would be fun to see you play and even more fun to watch cherished members of the community get shot to pieces!

This should be interesting to say the least. If you have any medic characters open or even someone with a medkit, sign up Dennis Hunt. I won one of the recent forum hunger games with him, so he'll die within the first five moves of the first battle he enters.
Aka Dennis Hunt the (usually) overworked medic/doctor.
Currently AWOL due to my computer dying.

Keep in mind this is UFO Defense, not Enemy Unknown/Within. There are no classes, although I'll make sure to give you guys your proper weaponry to suit your preferred class.

I will be using the following mods:

FInal Mod Pack
HWP - X-COM ENFORCER
Commendations
FMP High Quality Sounds

I'll expand the details on the thread if a lotta people show interest.

Well, I think we've got a decent sized amount of names ready. I'll most likely start our playthrough tonight/tomorrow night. To keep your lust for xeno blood sated, I have some images saved from my past runs of X-COM.

This is from a prolonged engagement in an apartment block during a Terror Mission.

This, Fort Autism is the perfect name. Also, put base in Africa, Egypt, or Nigeria. Quite short distance from there to anywhere in the world except the poles.

Concerned looking Medic with an SMG that's always at the back of the squad. and always gets ambushed because he's unlucky: Nathan Cutter.

Good luck mate! hopefully none of the headcrabs (I forgot the name, okay?!) mind control your troops! (If they get Jack Knight, we're better off without the sociopath, mercy kill him.)
