Is the resin membrane any good for building?

Post by Crab_Spider » 26 Jan 2017, 10:50

I've noticed drone castes build hives that would impress even Toroic, usually with the bare essentials; plasma, weeds, sticky resin, walls, and doors, but no resin membranes. I once heard they're weak to there's no point in making them, and after checking the wiki, I found out they allow you to see what's on the other end as though they're a window. Are resin membranes of any good for assaults or building nests?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Resin membranes aren't currently good for anything it's essentially like building an Fob with glass.

When you can see people through walls, why do you need a window that your enemies, who don't possess the same ability, can see through to you? Aside from that, they're weaker than resin walls and cost the same. No point in using them.

Maybe if they were buffed to the level of r-windows, sure, but as said above you don't exactly need vision of your enemies when you can see them through walls and they can't.

Membranes are mainly used in inner hive building such as egg rooms (so xenos could easily locate them) and the same goes with nesting rooms.

Now hold on a minute... if there's a sentinel guarding the nests the chance of marines to escape tickles zero. So don't blame the design blame suicidal sentinels.

A hive should be built around its defences, not the aliens guarding it.the hive should be made so if the sentinel gets killed, the hive can hold it back until another xeno comes and kills/cptures what killed the sentiel

That's why we have outer walls and more resin doors :P Notice that I said inner building meaning that they are in the hive behind resin doors and walls.

you mean...where you keep your larva? I've seen a lot of hives that had literally a membrane wall that connected the host room to the larva room.

Resin membrane is fun. Especially when you group marines together next to each other as they scream in terror watching their comrades slowly burst one by one.

ROUND STATS WHILE COMMANDER:
Marine Majors - 1
Alien Minors --- 0
Alien Majors --- 3

Win/Loss [25%|75%]

The only thing I've found them useful in is fortifying extensive tunnels. If you have tons and tons of walls and doors, it can get disorienting. Adding some resin membranes here and there so the xenos can see the walls of the caves can help them navigate without getting disoriented.

Membranes are used to reveal something you need to see to know are there, notably egg rooms, secure nests, and hivelord tunnels
Occasionally also used for disorientating nested marines and making them think they can throw a grenade at larva that are actually several resin membranes away.

I'm no expert on Xenos but, I don't think using membranes are worth the price of plasma and time, putting them up, pretty sure it's worth it over a wall.

I think the membrane would have some value if it were as strong as a regular wall, if not stronger. It can be very frustrating navigating a hive with lots of walls and doors, and they're useful for indicating egg rooms or nesting chambers.

I use membranes when I'm hivelord and I have a tunnel room. Lets fellow ayys see the tunnels and encourages using them, since aliens can't build signs/symbols.
