Ah, long are the days gone when you could squat out an egg under a door. Maybe the queen was expecting something more like a standard honeycomb/barrier in the barrens? (I assume that's barrens, anyway)

As a boiler maze hives are annoying. You have no clear shot for bombard, ever.

As a marine I love the queen that did this.

I think maze hives have fallen out of favor in exchange for clear lanes for boiler shots + crusher charges.

Yeah I made triple to quadruple resin wall hives that have two to three lines of movement for all my xenos as a drone.

Had a huge beach base that followed that principle and we slowly whittled marines down to nothing through rav + crusher charges then boiler onslaught.

This layout has its benefits, I like placing areas like this face back in the hive, so in the case that the hive is pushed back deep within the hive it is likely that crushers and boilers are dead, and a layout like this works very well in conjunction with the queen screech and can allow a good drone to be pretty robust. But doing this on the front lines is pretty meh

why do you need to build there? It's perfect already:

• Runner, hunter, ravager can pounce without bumping into walls? Check
• Crusher can charge through? Check
• Can spit marines from a distance? Check
• Blocks marines from chasing retreating xenos? Check
