These are a few screenshots of a hive I made as a Hivelord during a pretty bad low pop round with a green queen.
As you may see I tried to make the hive as random as possible with doors leading nowhere and such.
I hope you like it and of course I'm open on improvements since this was only my second time of setting up a hive like this.

Sticky resin is under used. Makes marines sitting ducks really. Random doors is also pretty evil considering how they will assume doors lead somewhere.

Yes, when building the hive I mostly took my experiences as a marine into consideration. Though the hive was never really assaulted, looking it at it now it's almost unfair for the marinesBlazerules wrote:Sticky resin is under used. Makes marines sitting ducks really. Unfair to Marines makes it a good FoB. Now imagine a LV hive filled with sticky resin and long lanes for boilers to bombard down.
No marines will ever pass.

I'm not really convinced that open concept sticky resin fields are at all less effective than what you're presenting, especially when you take boiler and crusher combos into consideration.

Open field sticky resin with boilers.... Dear god that's horrifying. Good thing xenos never do that.
Hell that's horrifying if they have spitters, runners or well anything. The movement debuff would let xenos pick off marines fairly easily from a distance I'd imagine.

Re: Ice Colony Hive Setup Idea
The best hive setup ive done was making nothing but walls and made "cave" walls. Aka they were tunnels (3 tiles apart with nothing but walls everywhere else).
Its too bad I didn't ask for a screenshot from admins (enlarged one); it had boiler lanes and sticky resin so that anyone wanting to pass would have to deal with crusher charges + our rav charge + two boilers at the back constantly bombarding.
The problem with your setup is its WAY too close. There is only one tile so if a xeno has to retreat, and xenos are behind him, he won't be able to escape and he'd die simply because of xenos pushing and shoving to let him through. One flamer can end a crusher in these tight lanes with no movement possible, and ravs will just get buckshotted / AP round shot down and since they are glass cannons they will go down quick.

In Ice Colony underground, as a drone, you can flank a skirmish squad and place stickys in their retreat path. So it is an advantage if the hive includes some predictable locations where the fight will take place.
