To settle the Argument about Hivelord/Carrier

Post by Butterrobber202 » 15 Mar 2017, 17:03

So, some rounds when I play, everyone gets into a big argument trying to decide if Hivelord and Carriers are T3 or T2.

So, I was refreshing myself on the Rules, and this is what I found.

Tier 0: (lowest): Larva
Tier 1: Runner, Drones, Sentinels
Tier 2: Hunter, Carrier, Spitter
Tier 3: Ravager, Praetorian, Hivelord, Crusher, Boiler
Tier 4 (highest): Queen

There you go, from the rules.

Yeah. The Carrier is pretty much a T2, from one of its properties, it is one, they are stunned by buckshot and slugs, something only aliens up to T2 are affected by.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I was told T3's actually count as a T3 slot despite being only a T2.

Probably because of their ability to absolutely... CARRY... a team if they know what they are doing.

Carriers are actually pretty useless once they hug someone. When that minute is over, there's nothing that's going to prevent them from getting a swift and brutal asskicking, and with their ability to be stunned by shotgun fire, there's nothing going for them. I would count them as a T3 for this inherent aspect as T3s lose a majority of their predecessors' key abilities and properties.

Hivelords are bad, they take away some of the more useful functions a drone has while giving it little in return, stick to drone people, you'll be better off that way trust me.

Actually a single competent hivelord is good if they are spamming the tunnels from a central network to travel all around the map, the problem with that even more so is... nobody uses said tunnels.

Which is why drones are better.

Honestly, Hivelord is a glorified drone that can make tunnels, you are better off just upgrading as a drone unless you know specifically a good set up to flank as a hive lord, and a bunch of T3 died. I would rather have the Crusher Boiler combo then waste it on a Hivelord.

Everyone has their opinion and choices though I suppose.

Hivelord only take a t2 slot, and while they are supposed to he heirarchy-wise a t3 they are a weak caste that is almost entirely a waste of a slot.

A drone has acid, can vent crawl, doesn't have to fight for a slot, and can evolve to a queen.

A hivelord has a faster plasma regen rate, higher hp, and can make tunnels.

Elite drone and a hunter is better than a hivelord and a runner.

Yeah I'd have to agree, but I don't want to go so far as to say hivelord is useless, if someone really wants to be a hivelord and is good at making tunnels I say let them, though I'm the type that as a queen will decide to hive in the completely opposite of what the "Meta" is, much to a bunch of salty Xenos who don't know how to have fun and mix it up a bit.

Same.

Whenever im Queen (usually because no one wants to go Queen and im sick of BR or silent Queens), I always make the weirdest hives.

On Ice, I did a tcomms hive (worked due to Boiler).

On LV, ive done a Hydro + Medical combo where Medical was the nursery and Hydro was the Tallhost area, and won.

Im thinking of doing a Secure Storage + IA hive when I roll Queen on LV again, should be interesting to say the least.

Oh neat I was one of the last marines on the tcomms hive, went up on the pod to a slaughter after booking it from the rasp.Heh.

Yeah next time I'm queen on ice I want to make a dorms hive, or western caves.

Dorms is a really OP hive spot.

The Command center is full of R-walls pre-made which is hard to get past unless marines waste their C4. You can acid / crush charge the normal dorm homes to create a pre-made maze that is much harder to shoot down than resin walls. On top of all of this, if you get drones to sticky resin everything afterwards, your looking at a nightmarish maze with nests in Command area for those you capture to traverse.

Yeah, I did the Tcomms FOB.

Not hard to find out since Queen ckeys are shown end of round.

Wut mate? didn't you read the description for hivelords? "a builder of REALLY BIG hives" whilst the drones description is only "a builder of hives". checkmate.

Hivelord with resin macros is godly in some fight situations, had once to deal with one and couldn't kill it cause the constant fast walls that appear from thin air.

Drones can do the same thing at Elite +; they are godly at making walls and do not take a T2 slot.

Ancient drones even more so.

Mature is ok.

Young is garbo.

Until resin structures made by hivelords are 2x stronger than drones, hivelord is a waste of a T2 slot much like Prae is a waste of a T3 slot compared to what you can get for a T3 slot.

Checkmate.

Make Hivelord walls 2x stronger or something, or better against AP rounds so Marines aren't just firing away at them to bring them down. Make them have to use those specialist weapons on them so it's actually useful to be a hivelord. AS it stands Hivelord is just a glorified drone that can dig tunnels which most don't do properly or at all.
