Going Into The Lz Hot
For a long time the marines would never fire at first sight. It was almost a back and forth game until the xenos attacked. And that made perfect sense. As a marine you are attending a distress call. When you arrive at the colony you find what appears a lizard (xeno scout) and you inform command. For the time being the xeno is just another wildlife until the attacks begin. But something that's been happening quite recently is that the marines go into the LZ Hot and immediately search and destroy any xenos. For example yesterday. A few runners, myself included were scouting out the metal birds at Lz2 under mothers orders. As the dropships touched down and we watched the marines from the path. Three squads storm out immediately firing, SADARS, M56, grenades. An SL even tossed his OB albeit without activating it and the spec picked it up. Point being, Why on earth are the marines lighting up some, what they can only assume to he native wildlife with every weapon they have. This has been happening quite frequently. Not to the insane extent as yesterday but still. We're seeing runners lit up by marines when in reality you wouldn't just open fire with everything you have against say a deer. I'd like to see some xeno opinions on this matter as well as what marines think.

Re: Going Into The Lz Hot
All it takes is one guy to start shooting, then everyone does. Sure it would be nice if marines didn't come out guns blazing or if runners tried to creep out marines by hissing at them from the darkness, but you can't ever really fault one side for attacking the other.
It is funny to think about marines calling down fire on a group of deer, though. I bet they would do it just to see the fireworks.

Re: Going Into The Lz Hot
I've been guilty of this during my xeno ban. I rambo'd alot, and because everyone praised getting kills, and no one ever called me out, I thought it was fine. But then it took me awhile to remember I was ruining the rounds of others. So yeah, I just "stopped". If you're killed and you weren't hostile, or even seen, on first drop, ahelp it. Might as well get that last laugh.
New players are thinking this is a shooter (in technicality, it is), but it's a roleplaying game with a structure to ensure you can do what needs to be done to preserve the fun of others. I don't like killing players that don't intend to harm me or do anything malicious to me in that moment, and I don't like it when I'm killed before I even had a chance to make an impression. People who do this shit force the conflict to occur early, and create an RP infraction.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Exactly I can remember times as a marine when command was getting us to evac a ravager because we thought it was an endanfeted animal. But alas a baldie opened fore and ruined the RP for everyone.Crab_Spider wrote:I've been guilty of this during my xeno ban. Don't run into melee, into very close range. Simply put, Xenos look like Monsters. Not lizards. Don't try to compare them to deer, either. Stalk/be spooky by destroying lights nearby, hissing, running on the outside of their visionz
The above is you, the Runner.
Surely you can see the difference in reactions.

No you can't. This isn't earth you are on an alien planet. And you know NOTHING about the xenos. And to put it frankly. Opening fire on the xenos first thing ruins game play for all.Josephs477 wrote:Don't run into melee, into very close range. Simply put, Xenos look like Monsters. Not lizards. Ok, precisely why you need to adjust your RP. A creature moving at 20-30 MPH right at your ass. Whatchu gonna do? Fire your damn gun!
You're asking people to play like they've got no self preservation or fear so that you can get some early ganks, essentially. If the RP is what you're looking for, acknowledge you're a god damn monster.
**I'll edit to add a point - I'm NOT a murderbone player, I RP (from a safe distance) with aliens/Preds, but frankly Xenos attack at the first moment you try to RP a high % of the time. I learned that myself, so if they come into range of buckshot, they're getting a load. It's not IC to allow a giant ANYTHING that moves quickly to get into close range.

Except were not. In the case in questuon and almost every time we are standing still having not moved when the marines open fire.Josephs477 wrote:Ok, precisely why you need to adjust your RP. A creature moving at 20-30 MPH right at your ass. Whatchu gonna do? Fire your damn gun!

Saying you are acting on learned intrests to shoot a xeno that comes close is using knowledge from other rounds.

Maybe you're having difficulty reading the entirety of my post. I'll bullet point for simplicity sake.
I'm telling you a few things...
A. Xenos are Monsters. They're not deer. They are also moving aggressively/threateningly near/towards jittery/combat ready marines who are investigating a distress call.
B. The first things Marines generally see are blood/entrails upon entering the Nexus. I'm sure you've never seen a body torn open, but I imagine you can try to think of the state of mind someone would be in having seen that.
The ABOVE two give IC reason for actions.
C. Xenos generally murderbone lone marines early on, pouncing/destroying them at first vision.
D. Predators generally try to RP upon first sight of their prey.
E. Xenos don't pick on Predators because they're aware of everything in the universe and know they go boom.
Shooting at one on first sight is acceptable and shooting the other is generally not. The reasons are the RP expectations of Predators are higher (and they produce higher RP) and that it's generally accepted by the community that most Xenos won't RP. Enforce a higher standard of RP in your fellow Aliens and you'll see the shift of RP from the Marines.
Also, don't be so foolish as to walk into Melee. Marines can't outrun 90% of aliens, so if you're trying to RP and run into derps, move on. I know I won't shoot you if you keep your distance.
