Xeno After Death: Marine Mains on the Xeno Team

Post by davidofmk771 » 31 Oct 2017, 05:02

I'm sure many of us do it. You fight gloriously and die early as a result. Your men couldn't recover your body for whatever reason, and you simply accept the cold, icy embrace of death. Yet as your eyes remain closed, you begin to rise up, and see the whole world around you without limit or barriers. You can see EVERYTHING! All only put into context through distance! Not only that, you hear EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. After five minutes of this veritable hell, you would accept any escape.

And you see it.

'Join as Xeno'

You click the button, and a window pops up.
► Show Spoiler
Of course, all the good ones will have 200 seconds remaining on their ghost-timers and will have 5 other ghosts contending for them. So you choose a simple Mature Larve, and go off. You grow, maybe into a runner, maybe into a sentinel. That's not important. Whats important is that you look at your former brothers in arms, the FOBs you built, the xeno corpses you've made, and you do one thing:

KILL. DESTROY. CAPTURE. INFEST.

Your mind is so altered, your soul so invariably shattered, that your only desire is to serve your queen in her maniacal quest to infest every capable host with her ever-spawning children. You may find yourself becoming a Mature Ravager or Elite Spitter by time the metal bird makes it's final flight, and shortly after you will find yourself destroying the place you once called 'home'. So I have decided to make this thread to discuss one topic I haven't seen much of:

How do marine mains feel about going xeno after dying? Is it funner to smash the building-block towers you've made or do you find yourself unable to kill your best buds?

I doubt marine mains go xeno very often, except to suicide charge as young runners perhaps.

It can be pretty cathartic to melt all the barricades you yourself built as an engineer earlier in the round, before you got ff'ed and decapped.

Might be hearsay but I recall someone mentioning that the original intention of the game was that when a Marine died that they would go on to consistently play as a Xenomorph, however it was found that many Marine players staunchly refuse to play as a Xenomorph after death that as a result Xenos were made to be stronger individually.

I don't do xenos.

Except when it's god damn XRT.

People refusing to go xeno is why we can't have nice things.

I'm marine main and I often go xeno after death. However, since I usually die because other marines fucked up, it's "I WILL KILL THESE BLOODY RETARDS MYSELF" kind of motivation most of the times.

Same. Whenever I die, I usually will just join as a xeno to make some attempt to speed things up. Be it as an Elite Praetorian, or a Young Runner.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Runners are good fun. Just try not to fight until you're mature.
Troublesome, as usual.

I'm sad to hear about the lack of marine-to-xeno transference during rounds. I understand waiting for the much-rarer ERT role, but playing xeno can be fun in it's own way. For how much I hate being de-limbed by ravager charges and crusher stomps, I understand perfectly why they relish so much in the carnage they cause. It's fun as heck.

I don't consider myself a marine main, but I do admit that I play marine more than xeno, and have had many rounds where I simply just observed after my death. That isn't so much because I refuse to play xeno, but more due to other factors (like it being too late into the game to be any fun, or all the larva have run out, forcing you to sit tight till the next round).

When I do join xeno (besides those rounds where I decide to mix things up and jump the fence to the other side), it is either due to:

1: joining a round 30 minutes in, where the marines have already deployed and most of the larva have just freshly hatched
2: dying humiliatingly early to the point that I am more willing to switch sides in order to keep playing than to sit out the rest of the round doing nothing but debating in Dchat, or...
3: I happen to get put into an XRT.

Mind you, being a xenomorph (on a good round at least) can be quite fun and empowering, but also limiting. While marines can get a job based on dice rolls, xenos can only get certain "jobs" by either racing to tag the good shit first, or begging the queen. Otherwise, you are stuck as a mere T1 forever, and while an elite is nothing to scoff at, it isn't quite as exciting as being a crusher or spitter or what-have-you.

Heck, becoming a queen is not all that easy to roll for either, and despite having xeno spawn turned off for my main avatar, I have queen set to on, because I like the empowerment it brings. I think it only works with xeno spawn on, though..

I play both but I find that I play marine more often. Most of the time I'm either 1. Having too much fun listening to deadchat or 2. Not in the mood to spawn in as one.

I only play xeno round start,if I can't start round as Xeno(due to being late) ,I join as a marine. It's because of time-based evolution on upgrade system.
Now I am truly Free from this Endless loop of killing eachother.
I had my fun for a half of year. I am satisfied.
