How to lay traps effectively?
I recently started playing as a Carrier and I'm wondering how to get the most utility out of that class. I know that on one hand it's useful as a way to transport eggs to the front line and to slap facehuggers on people, but it seems like laying traps has the most strategy to it. So what is the strategy of laying effective traps?
I understand you generally want to go for high-traffic areas, tight corridors, etc. You also want to cover the trap with bodies or at least build the traps behind some items scattered about. It seems a lot of marines try to clear creep as they progress though, so how do you counter that?

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
You put them under a body/table/other envirmental object, you never want them on there own. You can drag bodies, but they are often the most checked(Even though they still are not checked quite enough), you mostly want to mix it up.

You could always go for volume, put resin holes in doorways, or areas that humans will have to walk through. Eggs are also useful, just planting them behind a wall could be enough to infect a marine. I once just flooded a hall with eggs and traps, it really makes it difficult for marines to advance because they have to check for traps while fighting people skirmishing.

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
The more the better. Put em in such large quantities in one area to the point the Marines get scared to even move forward, and proceed to use CAS just to clear it out.
Hiding them under bodies is usually the way to go. A sneakier way is to used the deceased corpses of your sisters as a trap cover. They always cover the entire tile due to the sprite's size, and if you use a large corpse like a Ravager, some marines cannot resist coming to claim their kill without any worry.
But yeah, be smart with their placement when young, and spam the hell out of them when you mature.

The one under the Spec is great because marines can't shoot without exposing themselves at the corner. The monkey ones are too obvious but they do work so they are ok.

Ha! That's my round as a Carrier. And there is Sephoris as the infamous Drone 770 there as well!
Yeah, Monkey traps are obvious, but at the same time - bring more monkeys to the line than you lay traps, so that Marines will be afraid to advance over a monkey corpse .

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
Corpses in general are too obvious (monkeys and marines) however in some circumstances (Squad Leads/Specs) the pay off is usually worth the risk as marines are more likely to take the opportunity to grab their SL/Spec than Baldie McCrewcut.
My favourite two ways of placing traps as a carrier are:
- Under guns. I guarantee you PFC McCrewcut will charge blindly towards that pimped out BC pulserifle before checking it for traps.
- Under remains. Especially on LV the remains that are scattered about the map conceal the resin hole almost perfectly and they are inconspicuous enough not to cause marines to check each and every one.
All in all. I also advise placing traps on flanks etc. my best carrier game so far was on LV and I had trapped much of the area on the opposite side of the hive for the inevitable flank that the marines tried, it was a hell hole and I ended up infecting 12+ marines just by traps and when I finally died I had charged into a group and infected four more with my death. It was hilarious for me and salt inducing for the marines.

In a sentence: put them under crap (corpses/anything else that blocks the hole sprite) and in/near key chokes, preferably surrounded by sticky resin so the victim can't back off in time.

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
Not if it's surrounded by tiles with more crap, and if there's at least the occasional tile without resin which there tends to be since it's often deployed in a checkerboard fashion.

Ya though some drones just don't use checkerboard.

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
Even more powerful than carrier traps are eggs themselves. You don't have to be in the same tile, being in the next is enough for it to open and jump at your face. And if they are under xeno bodies you won't even see them or be able to destroy them unless you check and have fire.
However, I feel that carriers are best used in egg transport and the creation of forward bases along with hivelords, so that frontliners may kidnap instead of killing. That makes the hive grow.
Sure, traps are fine, but they only tend to really work when you are losing, and if not followed by a nice kidnapping they just end up aborted by medbay.

So better don't do that.

OH I KNOW THE BEST MAP EVER TO LAY TRAPS
LV.
You know the skulls laid in ground at caves outskirts? Go wild laying traps there. Try it at home.

Double traps. Plant egg and make resin hole nearby it off sight. When marine destroy the egg and think it's all clear and safe to proceed. The unnoticed resin hole collect its victims.

Re: How to lay traps effectively?
One neat trick for traps I've seen today was a Carrier overturning all the vending machines, opening up all of the fire equipment panels and so on and laying traps underneath those. A very effective camouflage!
