Reds ones are vacuum which kill the host inside you. Blue is fine.

There is still an use for the vacuum pipes, such as killing hosts you've devoured, like B18s or other hosts with tough armour.

And yes, it does happen on other maps. You can tell if a vent is vacuum, since it'll say something like "You feel a painful freeze coming from the vent!"

On prison station the blue ones are safe because Prison has a (half) functional atmospherics set up -- it's pumping gas into distribution (blue) pipes from engineering. The waste pipes are still depressurized because the scrubbers aren't turned on I think, and even if they were they're on purge by default so all they would be pressurizing the pipes with would be CO2.

On big red, ice colony and LV none of the pipes are safe because there is no such system pressurizing the distribution pipes.
