More Unpopular Opinions: Secured Nests

Post by Lingering Profanity » 15 May 2018, 02:19

Secured nests. I hate 'em. For a couple of reasons. First and foremost, they're power gaming at it's finest. 1x1 prison cell nests are one of the most prevalent examples of power gaming that no one have a problem with.

Now, aside from power gaming, there is one pretty big reason why they're bad...

Compare the amount of time it takes to build a 4x4 walled up nest with maybe 2 doors on it. Now compare the time it takes to make just as many nests as in the 4x4, but with 1x1 prison nests. It's absolutely inefficient to do so, and will take atleast 10x the amount of time.

Further more, it gets in the way of my RP enjoyment. As of late I've been enjoying playing ancient sentinel, hanging out at the hive and RPing with the hosts. I'll say "Hi" at them, RP observing their wounds, noticing the amount of time it takes for them to burst, and things like that. And I find it fun. And sometimes I'll find an rper who is good, and who RPs well, and that's really rewarding.

But it's annoying when each and every host is separated from one another, and I have to walk into all the different cells and go "Hi. How's it going? I'll be your sentinel for today." In that case, I just stick with one host and RP with them. And that's unfair to the other host. Let's face it, how often have you been rp'd with as a nested marine by a xeno? It doesn't happen very often, right? And that's a shame, because it's one of the few times when there's nothing to do BUT RP. I mean, you're stuck there, you're probably not going anywhere... Might as well RP.

Ggggghhhhhhhhg no more talk about secured nests makes Xenos angry.

Also I'm pretty sure I fought you with a rolling pin yesterday after some monologue you couldn't understand. I don't usually get captured but your RP convinced me not to kill myself, and I ended up helpin win the round as an ancient runner after the CIC assault failed so good job.

You absolutely did. You were about 60 seconds away from bursting, and I was like, "Ya know, I'll put him in a little room by himself so he can make some mac and cheese or something before he dies."

But of course 2 drones were like, "THIS MAD MAN. DOING UNCONVENTIONAL THINGS." Lol.

I could care less tbh if you've got me in the nest I'm either going to ghost or try to kill myself, what you do or want isn't my problem.

the reason people make secured nests is so you have no chance of escaping. if two robusto people are nested in the same block, you're guaranteed some problems. Especially when they have enough space to side-step your neurotoxin.

basically all these things xenos do (dragging off corpses, hiding corpses, hiding hugger traps, secure nests) are to guarantee a marine gets downed and stays down. it may be unfortunate/over the top sometimes (hiding revivable corpses under already dead ones) but there rules say nothing about it so :s

There is literally no arguments to be had here, secure nest will always be superior. If you don't like the normal checkerboard type of nest, tell your friendly drones to build grid nest. The fact that an idiot like me can easily get up and set free the 3 marines near me if you don't have perfect reaction time to it makes the nest you're describing absolutely useless; let alone a cooperation between the 4 marines which will be absolutely deadly for even an aged Spitter.

If you want to RP, you're on the wrong side. Even then, what's stopping you from RPing with one single tallhost in a secure nest ?

Grid nest :

WDWDW
DNDND
WDWDW
DNDND
WDWDW

You can have 4 infected here (the number increases the more layers/larger area you have), and you can tear the middle wall down and stay there if you want it so much.

The time it takes doesn't matter when you have at least 20 minutes for drones to build at least one batch of secure nest at roundstart

Last time I was captured I managed to kill two sentinels with buckshot memes. And don't get me started on magharn+flamers.

Sure, I love the fact that you want to RP, but if you want to keep your fellow xenos alive (and maybe yourself) you'd better use secured nests.

This is a situation where the G part of RPG comes in. Your couple of minutes of RP with someone who absolutely can't understand you and is probably just screaming profanity at you is not worth possibly losing the Queen when someone breaks out. Even in a secure nest I've managed to break out and almost solo a Queen with my knife before I was stopped.

I PERFER GROUPS OF THREE OR FOUR HOSTS IN ONE ROOM. I HATE 1x1 NESTS. MOST DRONES MAKE THEM SO HARD TO NAVIGATE THEY HAVE ALREADY FREED HALF THE CAPTURIESS AND HAVE RELAYED THEIR COORDS FOR A OB BEFORE I EVEN GET HALFWAY THERE

Your job as a hive is to grow. Hosts in unsecure nests are a threat to themselves and to the hive. Secure nests means you can devote less resources to guarding your nest, while your sisters are fighting on the frontlines.

I've seen hosts off themselves, throw grenades, burn the place down, free other hosts which resulted in a snowball of freed hosts, etc. All in all, it's not a great sight when you suddenly have someone with a flamer baking the queen.

Since benos can't strip marines of their gear and put them in a padded room, we need secure nests.

The amount of times I've been able to escape from secured nests is laughable.

Hell I managed to C4 myself in the middle of a hive because the secured nest meme.

Other times its allowed me to get the drop on aliens.

They are often counter productive these days due to alien changes. I do appreciate any alien which uses clear walls however. Just for roleplay.

What caste do you play? I almost always end up a sentinal for the entire round, and I fucking HATE secure nests. They are SO hard to manage and absolutly RUINS any chance I have of getting some RP. And as a marine, the amount of times I get up from the nest and off myself is fucking insane. They suck. I will tear down walls/doors as a sent and DEMAND drones not make ¨Secure¨ nests. If they rebuild it I will just tear the wall down again.

Not saying that RP is my primary concern, but I want a LITTLE of it. Most of the rounds get so boring I either end up ghosting and observing/leaving or opening another tab and waiting until something happens. And it is REALLY hard to get to someone who broke out, they will have fucking freed the entire hives worth of hosts by the time I get there.

Pretty much no chance to escape if watched upon since the stupid nerf, forcing marines to do nothing for 3 seconds after freeing from a nest.

Which is enormous bullshit.
Other than that, no issues with secured nests.

Also, I've been noticing some sentinels literaly just chilling inside nests and tackling down already nested marines until they burst. with that in mind, this nest pattern could work.

Any marine bad enough to get nested deserves it. Imo they should be impossible to break out of/very hard (not this get out in 30sec BS) as a way to punish bad players.

Like seriously, the xenos are pushovers as it, and you need either bad latency or bad skills to ever get anywhere near nested.

They are a hindrance when they are more than 2 layers thick. Even 2 layers gives the marines more time than enough time to get their shotgun/flamer/grenades/what have you out. All mr. sentinel should have to do is open a door and mmb in theory when using bubble nests.

I RP with nested marines by emoting checking the resin prison and touching their hair.

If you stand in the doorway between two marines, you can rp with two which is a decent number. Especially if I emote holding their head still so they have to watch the other that is bursting.
