Stealth and the lack of it.
Hey, who here knows how to use darksight? I do, and it always amuses me how so many other xenos don't utilize it enough.
For some castes, it is understandable. You can't stealth as a boiler, and the whole point of crushers is to get the marine's attention and soak bullets. But then there are classes like the spitter and the carrier, who are capable of attacking from the shadows without being seen (although the carrier might have a harder time doing it).
Sure, it might be harder for melee based aliens, but the shadows are still vital to survival. And yet, as a marine, I seen many xenos that constantly get within marine LoS and attack, rather than try to skirt the edge of the shadows.
Marines can't shoot what they can't see, after all, and the reason why I love ranged xenos is because I can cause trouble without exposing myself. I had many good memories of causing marines loads of panic and paranoia, burst firing into the shadows and being constantly irritated at the constant harassment, yet never being able to find the source. Aaah.. Good times.
How many other xenos here know how to use darksight? I honestly wish more would use it, because it is a sadly overlooked ability that can extend your life (although it means increasing the chance of stepping on unhidden mines if you aren't careful).

I dont toggle it off because it puts me at more disadvantage than it helps usually. Because marines are playing the entire round with it, you're just turning it off a while. I find it relatively unhelpful most of the time since marines seem to have better darksight than xenos when its off. I use it pretty much entirely as a boiler. Making it /look/ like they have a clear shot to me when they dont so the sniper wastes ammo is fun. Also to make sure im not lighting up important things.

I use it all the time as every caste there is. I really should macro it at this point. The advantage of knowing when you're visible is unspeakable.

I dont use it much anymore cuz I got used to it that I can guess the light and darkness from observing flares and armor and corpses which emit light around me, and I became aware of light sources and its always my number one target, it just irritates me when I see xenos raiding sulaco and ignoring lights around them and leaving corpses there instead of dragging them away, light is ur number one enemy as xeno, flares are marines equivalent to huggers, if you are lighted every single marine will throw 3bullet bursts your way

I have it bound and constantly toggle it on and off. It not only helps you skirt around marines' vision, but can let you know ahead of time where they are offscreen if they're close by, since you'll see their light moving before you see them.

Unless they're on hyperzine! Then they'll move faster than their light.

Always toggle darkvision when trying to hunt. It allows you to get real close to marines in places you wouldn't usually go and allow you to sneak up on them

Back when the sprites were different, hunters could hide really well against the weeds in dim areas. It was amazing, because all you had to do was cloak then face north.
But then the fire nation attacked.

They changed hunter sprites, because they looked too similar to drones... Apop, that there could have been solved with you making the chest armor black rather than static, because that coloring is just too abysmalFortport wrote:Back when the sprites were different, hunters could hide really well against the weeds in dim areas. You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I think they could make it so that they blend in with weeds again really well. That'd be like christmas. I don't care how.Crab_Spider wrote:They changed hunter sprites, because they looked too similar to drones... Re: Stealth and the lack of it.
I have such an obsession with light levels as Xenos and Marines.
Light as the marines greatest ally, and darkness is the Xenos.
It pains me to see Xenos ignore light sources and vice versa.
(Seriously printing flashlights a ton helps marines a lot, and melting them for xenos)

Re: Stealth and the lack of it.
Toggle it off so you can see whether you're visible. Toggle it on so you can watch out for mines and whatnot. I always scout out the area that I'm going to be using before using it. Especially as a hunter. Waiting in the darkness while invisible and then pouncing on an unsuspecting marine and proceeding to slash the daylights out of them will never get old. Especially when it's the same marine that blasted you in the head with buckshot 10 minutes ago.

But there's nothing worse than hiding just at the edge of the shadows, just for some young runner to come charging out with harm intent and push me into their line of sight. I've taken to many bullets that way, man.

I use it sometimes, mostly I either guess where the light is or I press the dark sight button frantically.

I use it to check on cleared buildings for any lights that haven't been destroyed. I think it's pretty much the only use it haves.
Best interaction with i've had:
