Mini Stories
My writing skills haven't been worked on in a long time, so I figured if y'all let me write about your characters, I'd give it a shot.
Post a request below about your character or a specific scene, and I'll try my best to write something short (1-2) paragraphs about them when I have time.
Practice piece with one of my lesser known characters:
God, shield me and receive my spirit. Lord, allow me to look upon your face. Marc was beginning feel the deep red sore the stock was wearing in the crook of his shoulder.
How long had it been? Hours? Days? The passage of time danced somewhere off on the edges of his vision, irrelevant. The only thing that mattered was the scope, and whatever passed in front of it. The others had all gone... somewhere. At some point. Some had died; others left, muttering about rescue. Marc had stayed behind, committed, as always, to the godly path. He had always been prepared to lay down his life in the name of his brothers and his god, but the Scope and the Monsters had seized him away from God and were beginning to slowly tear him apart from his very core.
Marc took his eyes off of the jungle for only a moment, to offer up another quick prayer. Only a moment, and suddenly he was on his back, staring into a mouth.... no, two mouths. As the mouths became a blur, come to end his life, time seemed to slow unbearably for Marc. I ask for the face of God... and I am given the jaws of Hell.

Clink.Halinder wrote:persh aggley, daily morning routine aboard the sulaco the day before they enter cryosleep
The jammed round rolled off of the table and onto the floor. Persh whistled cheerfully and swiped it under the table with a booted foot when nobody was looking. He added the freshly cleaned pulse rifle to the stack. Rifle maintenance wasn't so bad, once you got into the rhythm of the stuff. There are worse things to go through, he thought with a dark glance in the direction of the cryosleep chamber. The sleepers stood within, row upon row advancing into the gloom of the darkened room. Persh wasn't sure what gave him the bad feeling he had about this drop, but he couldn't shake it.
As he finished re-stocking the ColMarTech vendor, Aggley assumed an easy, relaxed expression. Embracing his earlier philosophy, he tried to fall into the rhythm that was life on the Sulaco. Drill, mess, it all began to blur together. Grinning faces and gray walls all blended together, but inside the unexplained worry continued to gnaw at him with increasing intensity. He knew that this daily rhythm, no matter how familiar, would inevitably lead towards cryosleep...
As the marines filed into the cryosleep chamber for the final time before their next combat drop, Persh stared at the padded device that had been his torment the entire day. Once asleep, the uncertainty would have him, and it would take him some place he didn't want to be. Something was coming for him... hunting him. He knew it.
But... marines are made to fight the unknown... right?

Re: Mini Stories
The red creatures would not stop watching him. The eyes were everywhere... and nowhere. The ones in the jungle had no eyes, but they could still see through him. All red. Murdoch huddled into the corner of his cell, trying to escape the gaze that seized his heart like an icy fist. The colonists... he watched the red ones come up through their chests. Red on the floor, red above him when they cut the power. He could stand it no longer.Martzin wrote:A prisoner freaking out in his cell and eventually shooting himself to the horrors of a couple MPs. Murdoch Machowicz.
Desperately, he looked for a way out of his prison. He shook the bars, he dug at the floor, he pleaded. The red ones showed him their large white teeth, and pointed with their batons, sending him scurrying to the back of the cell once more. He had marked several more minutes of torment before a massive blast shook him to his very core, and the lights flickered off. Not again, he thought miserably as the lurid red replaced the soft white.
He caught only glimpses of his captors as he lunged at the de-powered door, forcing it open with the raw strength of desperation. But when he saw the red once more blocking the exit, he looked around for other means. The shotgun on the table was so close, so easy... it took only a moment's thought before the cold, unyielding metal was pressed against the roof of his mouth. It remained there, steady and true, as he kicked off a shoe and jammed his toe in above the trigger. With its release came his own. So much red...

Re: Mini Stories
Vanechka had already seen the creatures tear apart two different detachments of marines that she had offloaded. The commander sat topside, surrounded by empty cups of coffee and demanding an increasing number of assaults, but the marines at the FOB mysteriously lost the reinforcements they so desperately needed. The last time she had come down, the sole remaining engineer on the ground, tasked with keeping the FOB's barricades intact, had filled her earpiece with loud, garbled pleas for supplies and reinforcements. She could only respond with a verbal shrug of her shoulders.El Defaultio wrote:Vanechka Penkina, PO, knowingly dropping off marines who will unwittingly walk into their deaths by xenos.
She really thought she was getting used to the whole thing. Wasn't too hard. Just land, argue with the marines, and then go back up again. But her chest felt tighter every time.
As Vanechka set the Rasputin down on the landing pad, she caught a good glimpse of a mob of the aliens, lurking just outside the broken fences. She could have sworn one of the things was laughing at her.
She slowly pulled a flask of Red Star out from under her seat. Neat, she thought, watching the creatures move out of sight.

Re: Mini Stories
Commander Story paced back and forth between the overwatch consoles, slowly but surely working off the pounds of microwavable burritos he had practically swallowed whole from stress. All but one of his bridge officers had caught the space sickness, drooling all over themselves as they each fell into a coma. The last BO jittered nervously in his own seat, clearly about to have a mental breakdown.Renomaki wrote:Reno "Weenie" Story, CO, having a really bad day in command.
The squad leads on the ground might as well have been monkeys with guns, since nothing intelligent came out of their mouths and they acted like they didn't understand anything he said.
He watched with distant resignation as one of the leads managed to talk the BO into bombing his own squad, and another chopped his own hand off with a machete as he tried to corner one of the aliens they were tasked with hunting down. The man's squad then filled him with bullets from behind as they all tried to finish the bug at once. Indeed, if Reno had had any hair left at the start of this op, it would fallen out all over again twice now.
"Commander..." from his tone, the BO was at his wit's end.
"What is it, Hirleman?" Reno asked, dreading the answer.
"Something's going around in the air, turning people into lizardmen."
"For Chrissssst's sssssake." Reno flicked his tongue out in distaste.

PFC John "Buckshot" Rhodes deploys on a wiped out Weyland Yutani colony called "LV-426" with some a platoon of Marines. He wakes up late from his hyper sleep, and drops down, disobeying orders from his SL and Commander, he beelines straight north to join the other Marines that are assaulting the hostiles that kidnapped the colonists and 6 Marines.
John enters and shoots his way through black maze, complete with very narrow corridors, perfect for sursprisr CQC attacks. After spending 15 minutes or so navigating this gothic labyrinth, he hears a strange squelching sound, followed by heavy thuds made by footprints behind him.

Re: Mini Stories
Doctor Powalski had seen nearly every type of battlefield injury known to man. She had spent many long years among the men and women of the Colonial Marine Corps, all with the same knowing smile on their faces when they walked past her in the corridor, all harboring the same belief that they were invincible - gods with rifles.Karmac wrote:Garth Powalski, CMO, prepping a surgery room for when the inevitable casualty is brought in.
She had seen too many of those formerly smiling faces contorted in pain on her operating table as she removed what was left of their shredded limbs, coaxed their hemorrhaged organs back into working properly, and picked various types and amounts of shrapnel from their bodies. Garth was once unnerved by the screams of the marines and faint at the sight of their broken bodies, but over time she had hardened to it all. Hell, she had operated on old Sergeant Dergens half a dozen times; she had replaced his last missing limb in bare minutes.
She had relaxed and prepared herself for the usual routine of traumatized patients by the time her shift had begun. But today, something was different. Calls of lethal alien infections were blaring over the comms.
When her first patient was laid out before her, her stomach dropped out all over again. Ice climbed her spine. There were no battlefield injuries - only a lump in the center of their chest, slowly starting to quiver.

Re: Mini Stories
He had ignored all the voices in his earpiece. A blend of battle thrill and a strong desire to save his hapless comrades had driven Rhodes forward, across the river and down, down into the bowels of the earth. The air was hot and humid, causing sweat to coat him from head to toe. His feet squelched on an unknown surface. He refused to look down; if he looked down he would look back, and if he looked back, he would be lost.Crab_Spider wrote:snip
The screams and alien cries ahead drew him onward. Before there had been people with him, fellow overeager marines - but they had blurred and vanished somewhere along the way, down the multitude of tunnels.
Bodies hung from the sticky walls ahead, and then John saw the massive shape looming over him. His hands tightened on his shotty; he remembered what Commander Knight had said before about victory or death. What seemed insane at the time was a temptingly sweet offer now.
He charged.
