Unfortunately Human

Post by LKC6 » 20 Mar 2017, 01:28

Mr. Urquhart sat alone. A drastic change from a few seconds ago. He actually had a companion within the few short minutes he had sealed the escape pod. Pretty young thing. A marine, short blonde hair. The usual picture of 'beauty,' albeit with a few scars. Perhaps beauty and brains were not a good marriage of traits. At the slightest sound of one of her comrades banging upon the airlock door, she decided risking her own life to save someone else was more important than saving a Weyland Yutani employee's life. It had to be done. No other viable option. A dying shame. The gun still sat next to him, unmoved. A solemn memorial to things that needed to be done to survive.

He could hear them, even now. Inhuman cries and scattered, desperate gunfire. Before long, it would be silent. A tomb, one which he had trapped himself in. For safety, of course. Urquhart's eyes would glance at the timer in the corner, patiently counting the minutes to his salvation.

"Three minutes."

An odd thought crossed the man's mind. It was rather sudden really. With a click, his briefcase popped open, revealing the gold bars and diamonds inside. There were a few papers scattered about, of course. Had to keep all the important documents in order. But, for an instant, he questioned himself. Why where those in there? Of all things, why those? Was it all worth the effort? It was an odd thought, he did not care for wealth, after all. A new spray of gunfire jostled him out of his pondering, and the briefcase was snapped shut. The liaison returned to his upright state: straight back, head held high, and cold eyes set forward, locked on the tomb door.

"Two minutes."

The gunfire was slowly dying off, as were the shooters. Every so often, Urquhart could hear a sickening scream, a blood choked cry, a desperate plea for 'God' to save a poor unfortunate soul at the end of it's journey. Oh, how Urquhart envied those fools. They lived in perfect ignorance, until the reality of their existence set in and they realized that they were born to die, lambs led to slaughter, husks bred to kill and bred to die for men like himself, the true movers of the universe. But not Urquhart. He was a man of vision. He had the will to survive, unlike the marines outside and the girl whose throat had just been blown out by Urquhart's revolver. "It is better this way, my dear," he replied to the corpse. "You had to die so that I may live. Think of yourself as the Second Coming of Christ, in a way."

"One minute."

Urquhart glanced upward, for no reason now that he thought about it. Staring in at him was man. Black, covered in blood, and a thousand yard stare that bore into Urquhart's head. His helmet was gone, as was his left ear. It was a ghastly sight, to say the least. The liaison sneered, his lips pulling back in a predatory manner, revealing his unnaturally white teeth. The damned fool needed to bugger off. He was risking everything, just to have a look at the man trapped inside the tomb like pod. But without warning, the man was gone, jerked away and out of sight. Good riddance. Perhaps he had taken the hint and left.

But that was not what fate had planned for Mr. Urquhart, as the doors began to screech. It took a few moments to register in his mind what was transpiring. The things were breaking in. No matter, Urquhart thought. He would be leaving in.....28 seconds. They could try to break in all they damn well like. But they couldn't. Inconceivable. A dying shame.

"Ninteen seconds."

The airlock doors slowly slid open, a black talon inching through the growing opening. For once in his life, Urquhart felt a twinge of concern. It couldn't be possible, could it? The door was secure, and he had only fifteen seconds left to go. He was safe. Secure. Nothing could touch him now.

The door of the pod slipped open more and the creature's black head jutted through, intent on forcing its way into Urquhart's sanctuary. His brain was whirling, but he kept himself straight. As he stared down the beast, head help high, he found his hand roaming towards the revolver. Then, it was in his lap, hammer cocked back. More of the obsidian creature slipped into the pod, until finally its entire body was entirely in the room, the door now firmly shut behind it. With an irritated sigh, he raised the barrel to the side of his head. The creature crept toward him, teeth fully exposed, waiting to tear into him.

'Three seconds."

This was the end. Dying shame. He thought he had won.

"Launch."

With one swift motion, eyes still locked on the beast, he pulled the trigger. The sound he had not even considered, never thought imaginable nor concieved, echoed throughout the tomb.

*Click*

The creature was upon him now, shining dome peering down at him, a cruel toothy smile mirroring his sneer, the second jaw already inching out. And with that, Mr. Hiram Urquhart, faithful employee of Weyland Yutani for forty seven years, realized one simple truth:

I am nothing.

Dark and incredible writing. Be proud of this, man.
" I don't care how vile these demons are, they pale in comparison to the wrath a true human can bring forth! "
