My gf's work after asking her to take a shot at it for a birthday present.

*i mean, i made this. my work. including the base sprite, all belongs to me. i am the bestest artist. no one arts like i do. When people ask, who do you know has the bestest hands for art, i look down and say, do these hands look like they can hold a 1 inch pencil with an extra tight grip? of course they can, with half an inch to spare.*

Walking animations for xenos '''''''might'''''' work since the mob is very alien in appearance, and it does not demand you spriting 1000 different walking animations for every possible combination of clothing.

Nice work to your girlfriend for keeping the art style the same despite having to redraw tons of times. That's difficult.

Man, imagine a version of SS13 with fully animated avatars...

It would change the look of the game completely and be even more immersive, rather than just players taking control of game pieces and moving them around the board.

Also do we really need more stuff that will bog down the server on high pop rounds? Do you guys really want lag that much?

That's a pretty rude and shitty thing to say about someone posting art in the art section, Jackie. On top of that, animated sprites would not make the server run that much worse. I really don't know why you would think that.

Sprites would affect players when you download the extra sprite images.

We have walking animations for Drones on /tg/ so the sprites would be a non-issue in terms of lag.

ehh, I think that it looks pretty good, even with my bias.:) I loved the head bob, the tail wagging, its pretty nice. I've always liked how animated sprites look, and i think the beauty of animation, especially pixel animation, is one of those painstaking wonders to enjoy. Im hoping to poke her gently with head pokes into making a marine being ripped in half animation.

I think the next step in art is small medium animations. I love when computers have flashing screens, when doors move, when guns pop out muzzle flashes. Ive seen some awesome walk cycles, and seeing an alien swipe its claws, stab its tail, and leap towards its prey would be pretty great. Even with stationary marines, i think it wouldnt be jaring at all. I think it would add an AMAZING amount of immursion, same as all the other small animations you may not notice present in the game ( vent cycles, flame torches, bullet impacts, etc)

As for lagging, animations dont really lag the game at all, with draw cycles being probably the *easiest* cycle for the computer to calculate. All sprites fit onto a sprite sheet, which the computer calls out to pick a paticular image set for use, which is very small processing power. The computer only needs to replicate a x/y pixel and color palate to the screen.

The only issue is if the computer has to flip/load between multiple sprite pages, which does use cycles/power. Thats an answer i dont to have on CM's/ SS13's sprite page sizes, or how much actual lag it uses, but i do think that CM isnt using all of the sprite space it has available for it.

of course, i could be talking out my ass, as my computer knowledge is of limited amounts, so correct as needed.
