As someone who SO's for Carson a bit he tends to order everyone including the SO's to get to SD first and then Evacs as soon as he is out of sight. He has a habit of making me think he is going to be brave and get me to commend him only to realize once again I'm the only officer left in the SD room.

They're there because he's psyching himself up to sprint past marines to get to the pods. He'll throw a doctor if he has to.
