The survival of Dr. Arthur Bennet

Post by Garrison » 01 Oct 2018, 22:59

The story here was inspired by real events and interactions I had during a survivor round as Arthur Bennet, everyone had such a good time with it that I decided to immortalize it in writing and also serve as an origin story for the character. Some of it had to be altered or replaced due to going entirely off memory or keeping it consistent with CM lore and fluff. Also thought I'd use Whaleys LV-517 map since I thought it would be more fitting, and to promote his idea.

Edit: I forgot who the XO was during that round, so I winged it with a popular character. If you recall who it was, i'd like to know to set it right.

Haha, man, I was playing Jackson "Shamrock" Dee that round. I absolutely loved the capture and interrogation we had with you, it was good fun. The story is almost word for word with accuracy with how we found you and took you in. I don't remember how that round ended, did we end up winning?

After the interrogating on the Almayer was over, I was taken to the medbay where I volunteered to join the medical staff, immediately after that, the round ended in a marine victory.

Uh, shouldnt CLF be the ones who liberare colonies instead of massacring non-USCM personnel? CLF are Just angry colonists with Guns after all.

This is a really neat story tho, Its pretty entertaining, in a way.

Would love to see more from ya.
I play Sydney 'Lilly' Wood, the totally not depressed doctor, And the marine Dylan Bell, that probably joined the USCM by accident.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions related to research.

From how I see it, the CLF come off as the kind of people that threaten you with: "you are with us or against us, which one is it?" I did refer to the CLF wiki frequently for references too. There isn't much about how they operate against civilian populations but it is hinted that they achieved their goals through actions of violence and subtlety. (Like most terrorists)

I did want to elaborate on the fluff and original content. But I refrained cause I wanted to keep the plot moving to keep things interesting. I might do that depending on what kind of feedback I get.

I will address a few things that were hinted, but not fully explained.

A. The attack was actually a CLF backed revolt against Weyland Yutani because many of the colonists were fed up with how the company was treating them as expendable human resources. When Arthur passed by Edwin, he was actually going over some final steps with some of his supporters before they began their revolution. I did want to put a moment where they talk, but it didn't make my final cut.

B. The year is important cause it's the year the USCM returns to Tychon's Rift. The CLF was not fully aware that the USCM had returned. So they were preparing for their actions to be intercepted by the Freelancers. while the PMCs were a valid threat, the company didn't have the man power nor cared to dedicate the resources to reclaiming the colony themselves. While the Freelancers are deemed a police force in the sector. They are more interested in money and material gain then the greater good.

At the same time, many colonists have renounced the belief that the USCM can keep them safe. The Colonial Liberation Front (CLF or FC) movement has ignited, leading many farmers and homesteaders to take up arms against their provisional government. Though taken lightly at first, the skinning and beheading of two Colonial Marshals by a crowd waving a Free Colonist banner have led the USCM to elevate their threat level to BRAVO.
