Weird Marine Secrets, Tips, or Tricks

Post by NoahKirchner » 28 Dec 2016, 07:19

Post any weird marine secrets, tips, or tricks that you've found. Anything from a more effective minelaying strategy to where you can find things like bunny ears on the map.

I'll start

If you go mining along the rock north of the colony, in one of the rocks you can find a locked crate. If you put in the right combination and unlock the crate, it spawns some random items (when I did it the crate spawned Vox clothing).

Gas mask (not my discovery) actually can slightly protect you against gas, but the keyword is "slightly" its not going to make you survive the boiler acid 100% no problem

Don't always rely on your gun alone.
George S.Patton once said:No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country.

I don't like cute things.

Good hunting.

You can bang on cargo containers with a empty hand.
You can poke xenos with an empty hand on help intent. Fun for first encounters.
You can try to crawl down xeno tunnels, You get a fun message.
Trying to pick up a facehugger makes it leap at you. Also fun for first encounters.
If you cook a grenade it makes it very difficult for an alien to avoid being hit by it.
Underbarrel Shotgun is the highest DPS you can do with any weapon in the marine arsenal. It only has 5 shots but it can output them incredibly fast and all of them do normal slug damage.
You can put a BFA, Barrelcharger, and Quickfire on a holdout pistol.
MREs and grenades fit in your load belt, Not just ammo.
Lighters fit in cigarette packets. Take the cigarette out, Light it, And put the lighter in the packet.
Burstfire target doesn't change as you move, move around a corner mid burst to surprise xenos.
You can use a binoc and your rifle to snipe if you can line up a straight line on the target. Such as a boiler. useful if you run a setup like mine (Grip Charger Stock) with excess accuracy but no scope.
Buckshot will always break an egg in one shot, Making it okay at clearing egg fields if you don't want to do the sorta immersion breaking 'Step smash step smash' thing
Throwing knives ignore all armor, So does your bayonet when thrown. Making them great for annoying predators.
Racks block pounces but not bullets, Making them great to fight around, They require a slash to remove.
Take your jumpsuit off, and with it your armor, by dragging it to your hand before attempting to suicide with a grenade so you can die instead of just paincrit.
As mentioned previously, Gasmask (And internals) reduce the effect of boiler gas slightly.

Devs recently put the myth that you could survive chestbursting to rest by removing the possibility entirely. (Untested, will attempt to prove wrong)

Prior to this development, a healthy dose of Tricord, Dylovene and Doctor's Delight was sure to increase the likelihood of surviving a chestburst by 63%, dosage amount and metabolism rates are the easiest thing to mess up here. Afterwards you would inject the patient with Dexalin+, as in immediately after bursting, and peridex would be needed to fix the unlisted organ damage your body suffers, which left untreated will cause you to steadily take toxin damage, spaceacillin helps at this point, but I discovered with the help of another medic that Peridex is the real problem solver there. After that its just a matter of ensuring your patient heals the remaining tox damage, any other damage they may have suffered, and ensuring whatever you OD'd them on won't kill them.

Considering this feat is no longer accomplishable I have no problems with divulging the secret to survival. Which really relies on the metabolism rate of the meds and the rate at which chest bursting caused toxin damage.

Orbital beacons can be hidden under things after being activated. Xenos will still hear it beep, but chances are they might not pinpoint the location, increasing the hit chance of your orbital.

When using the Overwatch computer, always make sure your name is on the top left of the Overwatch window. If someone else's name is there, you won't be able to fire OBs or send supplies due to a safety lock. You can easily change it by clicking the name to replace it with your own.

As a Xeno Runner, always make sure your hide ability is toggled OFF when not in use. It won't use up plasma while active (as of current), but it will make it impossible to regen plasma as long as it is active.

Underslung Grenade Launchers turn off automatically after being fired. Underslung Shotguns and flamethrowers do not.

If you are mine laying and make a mistake in placement, a Multitool can be used to disarm a mine so you can pick it up again and plant it the way you really want it.

A Sadar rocket cannot be removed once inserted into the Sadar tube. Naturally, you have to plan ahead before stuffing a rocket in there.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

Right click on your uniform and select the option to roll up your jumpsuit, no longer will you look like someone with standards in concern to looking like an actual soldier.

Did you know it is possibly to infinitely slip someone using only your hands and a bit of imagination?

You can fit atleast 3 burritos/ETA bars on your helmet, great for blood loss

You can fill your hypo with everything that you want, sacred weapon for quick heals as medic

Preds won't atack you if you drop your weapon and went SSD (Cunt move, but it works, most of the time)

You can pointblank yourself

A pulse rifle with grip+Rail scope+Extended+ Skeleton has actually more DPS than a sniper rifle, and almost the same precision (If you want more precision, get a supressor and a bipod, and get a table for cover)
On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

With only half the versatility, incendiary rounds in a sniper rifle make short work of Crushers, even standard marksman ammo chunks xeno health, you've got to remember you're either going to be getting kill shots or pinning xeno with the sniper rifle, it doesn't appear to have ever been a DPS gun, it's situational at best.

Try to remember that when you're wondering why your bootleg sniper rifle isn't doing jack to crushers or other T3's.

Oh yeah, i forgot to say to loot all AP mags.

Yes, it will be nice spike damage weapon (Sorry for using DPS), i tested and memed a boiler that tried to run. the bipod, supressor and skeleton pretty much remove the spread, and you always will hit the three shots...

Yeah, it's A LOT situational, made for boiler counter, but when you can use it, it can be used to meme down boilers (Or T3's if you manage to get AP rounds)

SNipers without incendiary are literally shit, it's the only good ammo that they have, and runners can survive against two sniper marksman rounds, so beware :P

Fun fact: If cargo orders surplus ammo you can find yourself with a number of M41A incendiary magazines. Finally the M41A sniper dream can be realised.

Cargo will order surplus ammo, but they will never order 2 crates of sniper ammo I ask for at round start, so I don't run out mid operation and bitch to RO about it.

But a foolish Xeno Hunter wielder of robustness stepped forth and opposed me. It is a good idea to replace the mag in your pulse rifle or submachinegun if you only have around 5 bullets left. It is better to have a full mag ready to go than be stingy with your ammo and empty your mag in the middle of a fight.

Go to the nanomeds and take an ointment, roll of gauze, and tricord auto-injector. Use those to patch up your minor wounds instead of nagging a medic.

If you do not have an upper attachment for your gun, ALWAYS ATTACH A RAIL FLASHLIGHT! Even if you can't get to the RO, you can easily make a rail flashlight by using a screwdriver on a regular flashlight. When you turn your rail flashlight on, your range of vision will be extended by 2.5 tiles. In a battlefield where your opponents rely on the cover of darkness to get the jump on you, the rail flashlight is the one underrated attachment that can save your life more often than a mag harness/burst fire/quick fire.

If you are guarding the FOB and hear a sudden "BOOOOM" within a close proximity of you, then run towards the sound as quickly as you can! Chances are, an alien stepped on a claymore and is ready to be killed.

In simple people terms, use a rail light, only 2 tiles on your screen become completely black and unclickable.

Prior to the removal of unstable mutagen's unstable mutagenic properties, you could abuse it to get superpowers such as telepathy.

Said telepathy could be used to have lewd mental conversations with the alien queen.

I take pride in being the first crazy motherfucker to get superpowers from that, and +1 to that doctor who let me play with my telekenesis for like 5 minutes throwing around pizza boxes til I got shot by a turret (the doctor saved me from my 100% rad level, 22 liver damage and mounting toxin damage that should have killed me if the doc wasn't a god)

Please, don't. I know people think that everything that they can have is theirs. But imagine when xenos swarm your squad everyone is dead or in crit, you are wounded but you manage to drag one of your dying buddy to the pod when you realize all tricord and gauze is looted and you will both bleed out.

Of course you don't take it from the pod or dropship, you take it from the Sulico, which has TONS of the wall venders full of basic medical supplies.

And if you are worried about using it up, fret not, you can easily restock and even mass produce creams and gauze by clicking on the healing item in hand with an empty hand to grab 1 from a stack (apparently that is how they work), then click and drag it into the vender with the single item stack. Due to the nature of venders, one stack of gauze/cream can become up to 5 of them!

I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before they nerf that when they realize that you might never need to order medical supplies ever again when you can just mass produce it through such a simple action such as clicking and dragging.
