Yeah that sounds about right. I remember the time I stood as MP on duty in the RO line and we had no cargo staff. In the space of 20 seconds the marines in line went from standing in line for no reason to beating my ass without me saying so much as a word while shouting about their attachments. Every time I examine the sign in there and read about the marine holding 2 attachments being mentally challenged I laugh because I know how true it is.

Without devolving into a joke speech. Even if you don't care at all for some of the more complicated portions of attachments, its still worthwhile to consider getting a few of the more basic ones.

Even something like a Bayonet or a Extended Barrel can give you a large performance increase with a very minor negative impact.

PS: Don't bother going for the really good attachments (Barrel Charger springs to mind) unless your a SL/Spec

most people who main combat roles dont understand that RO doesnt have unlimited points ordering a few attachment crates is the best we can do if we keep ordering more it'll lessen the supplies that are actually needed.

You don't need attachments to be robust, and more often than not the wrong combination of them will just make your weapon even worse.

Seriously, skip the 10+ minute autism shitslinging fest in the RO line and just go to briefing some time, it will change your whole world.

(Not saying I never use attachments, but I prefer my ironsights. At most I take a bayonet, rail light, or masterkey)

I always take a rail flashie. Heck, if the RO line is too long I'll just get a screwdriver and flashlight and make my own. Rail flashies are so vital. It's FREE extra vision. And people pass it up for attachments that make their gun ass.

I tend to take forward grip almost always (expect for smg), its a good attachment with little drawbacks, it does like, what? increase your weapon size and make it two-handed? not much of a drawback when it can go on already two-handed guns, rail light is fairly decent to take when you got no idea what you want or don't want to waste a precious mag harness for those specs

Let's be honest, rail light is actually the best attachment. Not even joking. Mag harness is okay but really marines, when you drop your weapons you almost always can grab it again, and if you are hauled to the hive you are typically dead anyways.

Save them for unique weapons or if you are a valuable role.

The most robust combo that won't make your gun worse, and you'll usually be able to get as a Standard, is a Forward Grip, Extended Barrel and a Rail Flashlight.

While you lose your underbarrel grenade launcher, you compensate by significantly increasing the accuracy of your gun at range, in addition you suffer from no recoil if you burst fire your weapon, meaning its viable to burst fire at medium range instead of close range only.

letting you see that bit more is vital. seeing that sentinel a few tiles before it's in spitting range. not only does it work for you, but it works for team mates as well. they are able to see targets you can see thanks to your rail flashie. if every muhreen would just bring a rail flashie, melted flares and lights would not be a problem. and there are so many rail flashies, I sometimes just stick 1 on an unused gun and chuck it out because it's better than a flare

a marine with a rail flash is almost as good as a marine with a smartgun or sniper headset, because there are now only two tiles in your sight radius you can't click on, aka pure black tiles.

I still remember back when we only had a single line for attachments... It was possible to make two lines, but most ROs/CTs were too lazy to even bother, resulting in marines having to wait an awful long time to get something as simple as a red dot. I'm so thankful that we now have two proper lines in cargo, speeding things up considerably, although marines still aren't satisfied even with that....

As for the topic on hand, I always figured that the red dot was the way to go, since it was a mod with no real flaws to it and it made your gun more accurate, which is always helpful. But then one day, after deciding not to burden myself with the cargo line and hussling down to engineering to grab a flashlight for my gun (back when engineers could go in there in the first place), I discovered that the rail light was far more powerful than I ever really imagined.

Accuracy means fuckall if you can't see your target in the first place, and a rail light has so much flexibility to it! It doesn't just help grunts find targets, but it helps Medics, engineers and SLs have more situational awareness due to an increased sight range, making it harder to ambush them and increasing their survival. It also allows you to turn off your suit light, making your hitbox slightly harder to hit due to not having a beam of light sprite on your avatar, which also means that friendly fire when pounced is slightly lowered!

It is a great mod for a number of reasons, and I kinda wish more marines would respect it... Or not, since then they'd probably nerf it and that would be sad...
