Marines: What you like most

Post by Mister Jeether » 30 Apr 2017, 19:02

In the marines side, what you like most of them? Guns? Friendly-fire? Bill Carson? Feel free to post below!
I play Sydney 'Lilly' Wood, the totally not depressed doctor, And the marine Dylan Bell, that probably joined the USCM by accident.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions related to research.

Marines have freedom

We can mutiny...

FF...

Riot...

Do not obey obvious marine law that is crucial to give a great RP experience...

Stabbing each other's back...

Not caring for someone else's life to save yourself...

This is what it's like to be a marine!

I love the battles with xenos especially now on big red, on lv it was just a river battle every round.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I enjoy trying to triage/treat large amounts of Marines.

Pulling a critically wounded or unconscious Marine out of the grasp of a Runner/Hunter who double face hugged the poor sap.

Defibbing a patient in the midst of gunfire/acid spit.

Medical.

Thanks Doc.
I always thank my doctors, even the rounds where I end up in medbay 3 or 4 times. I would prefer to keep them on my side.

The briefings. Nothings better then Marines heckling the commander and not paying attention and then wondering why the mission has gone completely wrong.

Murdering all of you for being annoying as hell and generally bald and constantly ffing everyone to hell

I like when marines get coordinated, i like it when there is competent people.

I also love the people that open fire before there is any aliens.

As a xeno, you are very limited in social interaction, and you aren't given much freedom to do things other than kill shit.

But as a marine, you have a lot more storytelling potential. Even the smallest elements can add to a round and possibly spin off into something interesting. For instance, I once told my squad a story about a mission I partaken in that involved swarms of killer rats, a rather mildly comical story that most people smirked at... And then later would reference throughout the round as it went on. Stuff like that is what I like about the marines, where with a little work, you can set up some interesting sub-stories within a story.

And when you aren't weaving a story, there is a thrill to trying to do the nearly impossible, trying to beat the swarm to the best of your ability (within reason). Marine wins are few, but when you get one... It is so satisfying.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

The fantastic roleplaying. It's not every round. It's sometimes one in ten rounds. But every so often, you get a squad that you click with, from the banter in briefing, to the anxiety on the planet, right up until the end where we're mourning friends and preparing to face the final xeno assault. On those rare occasions, every AP related sin is forgiven. And the next time I see those names in my squad or department comms, I know that the round's gonna have something worthwhile. Even if I die early, I'll sit watching my squad as they try to survive, because there're suddenly characters and stories that I'm invested in. That's what makes the marine side so great for me. This mostly applies to standards, because I've found that's the role I have the most time to dedicate to roleplaying, but I've had it happen across all roles.

In short, I like the characters. They add colour and a stake to things that is totally lacking in the Xeno side. That said, important to separate characters from memes. Having a character is cool. being a meme less so.

I live for the moments when you just get to unload into an unprotected Xeno and the pure satisfaction you get from the death noise and associated gibs.

Making a bond with a person/s and seeing the roleplay relationship change during the round (and over the weeks/months)

From laughing and joking, to dragging their corpse on the shuttle as the aliens rush the dropship, just for the slither of hope a medic is onboard.

All the roleplay which comes with that type of stuff is the reason I play,

Best thing in every game for me is pulling someone else out of the fire. Just knowing i made sure that guy at least got another half hour of game time makes me happy.

Getting kills.
Saving people.
The general good will amongst the Marines. (yes, seriously)

And on odd occasion trying to solo assault a nest to save my Sgt in a fit of rage and despair.

Being a ship crewmen and having no idea how things are going on the ground until the marines retreat to the ship or sudden victory theme plays. (RIP Hell March) Or that time I went down to Ice Planet the extract the XO with another MP to find the LZ under siege and a marine playing a piano just feet away from the last stand. Moments like these are why this game will live on in my memory forever.

The moments and stories it makes. I have like 10 fucking awesome stories that you could make a movie out of.

I also enjoy working with other marines and departments like a well (or poorly) oiled machine. I think it's really cool how everything comes from somewhere, and the people that would be NPC's in other games are actually real people.
Some guy.
