Tactics anyone?
Alright, I'm a bit tired of committing to stationary defensive tactics. Generally, on LV-624, I see that people dig in at LZ1 (Which is understandable. Comms are down there!) However, LZ2? While it's good to set a perimeter, I'd rather have two squads travel together exploring the area. The only place really worth fortifying is LZ1 after all. Anyways, anyone know some offensive doctrines we could use? Plus no matter what, RO acts like a dick! If we have the spec-ops gear, why do we have to keep it in storage? Shouldn't we use it?! OR does the RO need it to himself?

There is no spec ops gear in RO. You're just believing the player made rumors. If you want spec gear, go specialist. Even if they had spec gear, they can't hand it out to standards. The only way RO can get more gear is by ordering it. Hell, RO starts with less marine gear in their vendors than marines have in theirs. Let alone anything special. Also, we don't play on LV-624 anymore. Sorry not to answer your main question but I just had to point out the facts. And if you're referring to attachments, who cares when you'll probably lose barrel charged quickfire guns in the first few minutes of the OP anyways? It's better to give them to specs and squad leaders, roles mostly experienced players take on.Fleetgothic wrote:Alright, I'm a bit tired of committing to stationary defensive tactics. Re: Tactics anyone?
What I could consider effective is moblie warfare and selective targeting.
Cut off ANY alien from escaping and use ONLY melee to take them down if they are in a crowd, can't risk the FF.
Selective targeting would consider concentrating all firepower on a singular target, preferably any T-3 castes. This means to use all means of disposable firepower on them, the SADAR being one or any explosives.

Strength in numbers. Combine squads into one sweeping QRF, leave all engineers to FOB duty, with three Marines + Medic + Sentry guns to provide support.
Aggression and multi-directional assaults.
No Marine goes up for medical treatment that isn't an amputation or life threatening. (Those guns could be shooting at the enemy)!
Good luck coordinating the squads to mobilize properly!

Re: Tactics anyone?
I've only seen marines win in the new update when they put most of the squads in the front lines except for a few people to maintain FOB.
It seems you have to be more aggressive to win, or else the push will turn into the slow picking off of marines by either crusher / rav harassment, boiler gas, and queen screech.

Re: Tactics anyone?
Honestly, when I send out patrols, I don't like bunching up too many squads together.
In my experiences, sending two squads to patrol along the same route normally just ends up being a clusterfuck, as people get mixed up and lose track of their mates. Due to the design of Big Red, I normally just have one squad patrol along the northern half of the map, another squad patrol the southern half of the map, and then hopefully both squads meet up in the center after they do their sweeps... Provided the xenos don't ambush one of them and slaughter them, but that is always a risk.
I myself like to get creative with tactics when I can, but the thing is, it takes a fair bit of effort to figure out what can work effectively without taking marines too far out of their comfort zone, since most players tend to get violently confused and uncooperative when COs attempt to do things that haven't been tested before. Trust me, I seen it happen, hence why I tend to play it safe for the most part.
Other than that.. Tactics are kinda hard to discuss, due to game limitations and the engine itself. In real life, you could employ all manner of tactics with whatever gear you could afford and manpower you can supply... But in this game, you can only do so much, and since we are fighting xenos, most tactics go to shit real quickly due to how unpredictable xenos can be... Then again, I suppose you could also say the same for marines as well, so...

100%. Dividing your force only works if they work parallel to each other (close enough to reinforce/within earshot of gun fire) as the Hive will quickly overwhelm 8-10 Marines outside of the FOB. Once there's 2-3 wounded you have another 2-3 guns treating the wounded, and then it's GG. (Always better to WOUND than to KILL in war time and in Ayys vs. 'Rines, the support network becomes overwhelmed quickly)
Marines on FOB duty generally pick their noses or just roam off anyways. Have all the Engineers FOB it up (create a safe withdrawal point for wounded) and send the Grunts to do Grunt stuff.
