Fireteams
How useful are fireteams now that they are implemented? Are your squads more organized now? Feel free to say how you use fireteams to your advantage.

Re: Fireteams
Doesn't seem to work with baldies, but if you got a squad full of marines that follow orders, then the fireteams will function. HOWEVER, if they work well is something I can't really speak of, considering I don't play SL.

Re: Fireteams
Personally, I fucking love em.
I usually roll with one main segment (fireteam 1) with the spec and the majority of PFCs. Fireteam 2 has the engies and a 2 man pfc escort, fireteam 3 has the medics and a 2 pfc escort. I usually put the PFCs that can follow orders in 2 and 3 so I can guarantee my medics and engies stay alive, while I use mob mentality with fireteam one.
Usually I have team 1 and 3 sticking together, while team 2 sets up a firebase so we have a point to fall back to. Sometimes I detach team 3 if things are quiet, to wander and treat wounded, while fireteam 1 responds to threats as they come up.
So I don't really use them as fireteams, I use them as mini segments.

Smaller firebases are now even more possible than ever considering we have sandbags and easy to deploy smartgun bipods.

Re: Fireteams
I myself don't see myself using it too often as an SL, at least at round start anyways. I guess I'm just too old fashioned..
HOWEVER, in situations where I need to deploy a small group of marines to support other squads, I think it would make preparing a detachment WAY FASTER. Back then it was a pain having to organize a group of marines to go out on their own, but with the new numbering system, you can easily divide up your squad to handle certain tasks with just a few clicks of a button.
I haven't got to try it yet, but if I ever find myself on FoB duty and the marines scream for backup, I am certainly going to give the system a try to see how effective it is.

Re: Fireteams
I like the fireteams now because I don't need to hover my cursor over all the troops in my squad to check their names, just to figure out who to stick with. I love anything that improves coordination or teamwork for marines.

Re: Fireteams
Fireteams are actually stupidly useful, and are a large marine buff, as now organization has less granularity.
Before, the smallest detachment you could send was a squad, which is great for broad objectives, but if Alpha's supposed to be attacking with 2 men guarding the FOB, you'd never actually get those guards, same with any other detachment.

Re: Fireteams
Personally, I use Fireteam 1 as my bodyguards. Fireteam 2 are the bulk of the main force with the spec leading them. Fireteam 3 is a support and utility squad containing all medics and Engies.

Re: Fireteams
Haven't played in a bit, but I've watched some rounds and I've gotta say that fire-teams are exactly what marines need for organizing issues. Honestly it's something that's been a long time coming in terms of necessity, but it's something that you don't even know why it wasn't there in the first place, since it's so useful.

Re: Fireteams
I've seen a couple SLs take a really long time to do that, but to be fair it's better than just trying to remember everyone's names and hoping that the Spec can lead a squad.TehSpoderman wrote:only problem i have for Fireteams is choosing WHO goes in each fireteam

Re: Fireteams
I can't speak from the SL perspective but i can speak from the marine POV. In my experience, it has never been used by any SL. In the rare ocasion they do assign fireteams, we still get squanched together as one so it's straight up useless.
Best interaction with i've had:

Re: Fireteams
Fire teams are extremely useful if your squad has multiple objectives, such as "defend Nexus and the LZ". Likewise they ensure that your squad is organized and ensures that in the SL's inevitable death, a Fire Team Leader takes over, whom half of your squad has already been taking orders from.
And above all, they assist in taking the burden of managing 20+ muhreens as a Staff Sergeant, as you can dump a bunch of them on your Specialist and basically go "here's your fire team, go accomplish X as you see fit."
Really the hardest is trying to decide how and when your going to split your squad into fire teams and praying nobody goes SSD to fuck up your planning.
Personally I like to divide my squad as close to this as possible (which also shows a clear line of succession in case of casualties):
Fire Team 1
Sergeant Specialist
Corporal Engineer
Corporal Medic
PFC Marine
PFC Marine
Fire Team 2
Corporal Engineer
Corporal Medic
PFC Marine (Incinerator)
PFC Marine
PFC Marine
Fire Team 3
Lance Corporal Smart Gunner
PFC Marine

Re: Fireteams
If there is one thing I have to say, unless you're being tasked with fortifying two different areas, don't split up your engineers. Most people will forget they're supposed to be building and repairing fortifications if you send them to a fight, and if they die that's one less person building a wall to stop the xenos.
It's a big wall.

Re: Fireteams
First time as a 'standard' marine I was assigned to FT3 and the task protect the medic. My medic (Shotty) was shadowed like a hawk after my first medic Russian roulette d himself dead. Shotty didn't get more than six tiles away for the entire shift until we got spattered in the escape pods because we couldn't weld the doords. 2nd time SL setup FT2 as medics and FT3 as engineers and let us have moderate autonomy as long as we stayed to our assigned areas aka Engieering keeping the lights on.
Fireteams seems like a excellent addition only wish that the Overwatch console could see them to assist the SL. But I've never been a fan of only the SL gets a cam.

Re: Fireteams
-1 They aren't used as they are in real-life ;-;
But in all serious I actually enjoy them quite a lot from both the SL and marine POV as how it allows us to be able to move our squads around properly without having to worry about the crippling depression of having to micro-manage every single marine and remember their names to get them to do something. Even though I memorise the names of my fellow marines easily anyway, especially now that we got preferable squad list. GOOO DELTAAA
