But as I said, I myself played with knives a lot, using some macro to machinegun-speed-throw, and still didn't kill many. It works, but a rifle would just suit better. It used to be good when crushers had low HP and high deflect.
He probably meant the knives missed through RNG.

Dunno how you made it to mentor.
Throwing can't miss with RNG.

I'm no expert on throwing knives unfortunately. I went off on what it sounded like he meant.

There is only one way to be a Chad operator, and a belt of throwing knives is one of those steps

One time I was pounced by a runner and dropped my M4A1. A RAV was about to charge me and I happend to see a throwing knife on the ground. Being the only ranged weapon to save me, I picked it up and threw it at the RAV. Idk if it was already wounded but it hurt it enough to scare it away, saving my life.

so what even is the point of throwing knives? When would anyone reasonably want to use them?

As stated many times before, throwing knives are for predators and humans. Not xenos. They ignore armor, stick in the wound and causes brute dmg by walking with it. They can put someone to crit with 3 knives and they're hard to dodge for the average player.

Even so, throwing knives, the alien harpoon and the standard harpoon are both AP so they can hit a crusher or a ravager just like any AP bullet.

tl;dr

they're not designed for xeno combat and it's quite obvious so don't try to use them for that purpose unless you're A. Retarded or B. A meme.

What if I'm neither and just like to punish myself?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. knives can get the job done if you remember to use them on a badly injured T1- young T2 throw one knife at em and they are in crit zone where you can finish them off.

An important tip with throwing knives is you can always shove two in your helmet. Or two stale protein bars if you weren't man enough to use them.

You can put a throwing knife in your boot knife slot if you feel like it so that's pretty neat. Just figured that out the other day.

Preds are slowed down when they take damage, right?

Hm... alright. Now they're good for keeping predators from fleeing the fight, as well as ensuring if they are planning on using a weapon, they'll take the damage and continued accumulation of said damage will result in dismemberment, and will then take full damage.

Hypothesis is probably incorrect

They won't ever lose a limb because of the knife, move slower or be unavailable to use a weapon. But they will lose health overtime forcing them to flee to yank out the knife or to give up hunting you.

No. The knives will do a lot of damage over time as they're in the predator and if you stick enough in they might do organ/eye damage and cause them to lose a ton of blood. If you can throw a stupid amount the pred might bleed out.

It gets amusing when you throw them at xenos.
