Why are ranks not included in ID names? New to colonial Marines so it is difficult at times to remember things like a CT is a SSRG or something and a SO is a lieutenant? Without them talking is their rank indicated in shift+click?

It isn't that hard, SL is seargent, and that's pretty much it. Medic can be called medic, as well as engie can be called engie. If you don't know what rank is someone, just yell they role.Tidomann wrote:Why are ranks not included in ID names? Is he a seargent because he sears ayys in a gentlemanly manner with his incinerator?jusa297 wrote:It isn't that hard, SL is seargent, and that's pretty much it. Medic can be called medic, as well as engie can be called engie. If you don't know what rank is someone, just yell they role.
Is CE a civilian role? Or does he carry a rank. What about MTs? The only other one is CT and RO are military staff right? MP are staff sergeants?
Doctors, researchers, liaison, are the civilian roles? Anything else?

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Smartgunner is a Lance Corporal
Standard is a Private First Class
SOs are Lieutenants
The CMP is a Warrant Officer

Where are people picking up on this meme that engineering and cargo are civilians? How have some people played this long and not noticed that you call those guys TSGTs, Ensign, and LCDR and not "mister"?

Re: Don't call me Balto, i'm your Commander.
you ever hear of the expression "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"? i mean, i agree with the core argument, but it's funny coming from you, Balto. i mean, i could literally pick your character apart if we're talking about what's acceptable coming from someone who's in the military, at a commissioned rank no less.
here's the thing:
as a grown up that's employed, you generally want to follow orders and/or fulfill requests by your superiors. you don't have to like what you're being told to do, but generally speaking, you're going to do it anyway. depending on what type of employment you're on, you might even put up a fuss - still complying in the end. everybody, literally everybody, who's ever been employed knows this. even the toughest mfers on the planet do what their told 9 out of 10 times, if it potentially means the difference between having a job and not having one. that's life for you. you do what's necessary even if you won't agree with all of it. at the same time, people generally don't get into positions of notable power over others if they're outright fucked in the head.
let's put the above in perspective to playing a round of Colonial Marines, where things are a little different, yeah?
- do i still have to follow orders, even if i know a player's clueless, or worse, trolling and/or straight up retarded?
if you don't, you're stepping out of the boundaries of what's believable, because realistically speaking, there's no such thing as choosing not following orders in the military unless there are extreme circumstances.
if you do follow suit, you're doing it at the risk of being thrown into the same fucked up category as the person that's forcing you to do dumb shit.
the most sensible thing to do in the above mentioned scenario is probably to remain utterly passive and hope for the best, as in the upper chain of command to do something.
now we have to look at another aspect relating to the above: just how seriously are we taking ourselves here exactly? because, fuck me, just about every other round scrapes the bottom of the barrel as far as SOMEWHAT realistic roleplay goes. i mean, most of the time the CO/XOs can't even get a word out before the entire briefing room erupts in audible laughter, farts or other types of vulgar bs. this is after approximately a dozen marines have engaged in an obligatory bloody scuffle over who gets to be first at requisitions. i could go on, but that should suffice as a brief look into what we're dealing with as is, just at the beginning of a typical round on Colonial Marines.
let me set one thing straight too: i'm not really condemning anyone or the server. at the end of the day i still enjoy myself if i'm lucky enough to have a like-minded squad with me. to each their own, but you're not seriously asking players to address each other by their characters' respective military ranks after they have witnessed each other acting like unruly children for the first quarter of an hour of a round, no? it just doesn't work that way.
either you make do with having a handful of people who'll behave accordingly to the lore if there's enough of a like-minded crowd to support that or you start handing out punishments to players who treat a round of Colonial Marines like a faster paced round of SS13 on a no-rp server and streamline the experience for everybody in the process.

As far as I'm aware you don't salute while in combat situations, but that could just be the CAF, dunno

You don't salute during combat situations because this identifies your officer for the enemy and their snipers.Jory13 wrote:As far as I'm aware you don't salute while in combat situations, but that could just be the CAF, dunno

Look at this thread. It answers literally every single one of your questions about military etiquette.
viewtopic.php?f=94&t=9319
Covers when and how to salute, when to wear covers(for that fucking SO wearing a beret all the time)
how to greet your superiors and subordinates, aswell as good guides for how military characters are supposed to act.
