Re: USCM Special Unit
It's an idea that would be amazing if but for the fact it'd be mechanically difficult to implement (For the sake if who could / couldn't be part of it.) I think Solid got it right, a whitelisted ERT aspect would do it best.

Re: USCM Special Unit
I would support a mechanic to place a whitelisted player as the ERT commander for any ERT.
Maybe you have two forms of leaders, a sergeant and a officer. If there is a whitelisted person selecting to play they can be selected as an Officer, if there is none then a random player is made a sergeant.

Re: USCM Special Unit
I'm all for this. It sucks when you have a new player as the ERT leader that runs off without giving orders and dies without uttering a word, since they're the backbone of all ERTs. It happens all the time. Saw this happen yesterday when a PMC officer didn't take any weapons and didn't give any orders. As you can imagine, they were all wiped out pretty fast.Steelpoint wrote:I would support a mechanic to place a whitelisted player as the ERT commander for any ERT.

Just some funny moments.

It'd also (hopefully) deal with the issues of hostile borders just shooting everyone while memeing. Assuming that the whitelisted ERT member was able to take charge of a few of the more common response teams. But thats slightly getting away from the topic at hand.

Re: USCM Special Unit
When I get ERT I try hard to roleplay it but most of the time my squad mates are the baldest of the bald or the situation on the ship simply doesnt allow it.
Having a small gate on who gets the leadership role of an ERT in an effort to actually get ERT's to roleplay would be nice. Nothing you'd need to actually do anything more then having the option to accept or deny the leadership role or having a toggle option for if your in the pool for it or not would be needed. Wouldn't need to have an application process to see a large improvement almost right away from those. Kinda like how being start queen is its own toggle from the rest of the hive.

Re: USCM Special Unit
The problem is that if it wasn't whitelisted and happened to spawn with additional gear, I can bet there's a not insubstantial amount of people who'd tick it just for the extra two grenades or whatever. Simply just for the sake of being better equipped, I'd almost liken it more to a smaller scale CO. Primarily RP focused when they appear and a good way for dead SL's / XO's / CO's that have died to get back into the round, provided that there was some way to gate who could and couldn't apply.
Maybe I'm wrong here and it'd be fine for everyone to be able to check the box, I just think it's one of those roles that if it ever did happen to become a think and appear it should be noteworthy.

I highly despite "kiddies saying their characters have 300 confirmed kills", even though I boast a lot.OatzAndHoes wrote:Please no, last thing we need is a snowflake squad so kiddies can say their characters have 300 confirmed kills.
As I said, having a link between a forum-player-created story and IG ERT would be intresting AND for RP AND as community reward for those players.
I acknowledge this server is medium-RP, but I highly doubt heavy-RP is NOT welcome, and this is an open hand to it.

Re: USCM Special Unit
If it's going to be ERT how is it going to correlate with the current ERT's we have. I don't think the new ERT can be random-spawn if i's going to be whitelisted. If not, that could work. Maybe have it as a extra and USMC Special Forces have their own small ship nearby from which they launch to the Almayer?

Re: USCM Special Unit
I think it's random. Well, we have developpers and coders for that, it's not really hard to add a whitelisted ERT in the loop, I guess.

I mean you could just make it a special ERT and just pick up people from who are ghosting?solidfury7 wrote:This would become a meme squad or popularity contest as much as I'd like it.
I would enjoy a ERT whitelisted (or at least an ERT leader whitelisted ) so they'd have a competent leader guiding them with RP. Rather than a silent baldie who just pew pews

That'd be favorizing some people AND requiring a moderator or something. A whitelist instead would assure a badass ERT.notasyndie wrote:I mean you could just make it a special ERT and just pick up people from who are ghosting?
A year ago or some months ago, can't remember, hearing PMC was the top-nocht of ERT and you'd know aliens were fucked. Which is not the case anymore, now ERT means cool more hosts.

I wouldn't say that, ERT is still valuable for Almayer since you receive like 6-10 extra people.Dolth wrote:That'd be favorizing some people AND requiring a moderator or something. A whitelist instead would assure a badass ERT.

Neat idea, but the problem with Special Forces is, they'd have to be robust, and robust people here tend to also be non-speaking power gamers who meta the same strategy to get that win rate up. I'd like to see it, but eh.

But then there is a reason delta channel is a continuous mess. They mostly have robust player, and they RP a lot.
No. Really. There won't be an issue finding robust RPing people. Especially when RP is weak among the common players.

Re: USCM Special Unit
Yeah it's true what Dolth said. I think having a special unit would be pretty dope maybe white listed however I think not only is robustness required, but as well as team communication, and good rp. I also think if it's going to be an ERT it could be a ERT you can call upon only in drastic situations etc the Xenos have boarded and all the marines are dead than the commander can call it, but than again I guess that's what a normal ERT is eh idk someone probably has better ideas.

Something that's really bugged me as I read the description of UPP and IB soldiers when in their ERT's... This is the flagship of the USMC, I too feel like having a special unit prepared in case of the absolute worst happening, either to save or scuttle the ship, makes a lot more lore sense than the flagship of the USMC wandering alone into contested space with only PMC's and Mercs as possible frienemies.

Re: USCM Special Unit
What about a special ERT that can only be called by the Ares when everyone is dead and the SD is activate, that way would not only be required by the squad to work as a team because the ship was taken and would give that felling of you passing by a infested ship.

Delta are the scouting force, unrobust scrubs are forged in flames into men of steel or quickly change preferred squad to Alpha and sit on FOB duty for the rest of their time playing.

I know it's a flagship, but...Is it really THE Flagship..? Because there isn't much special about this ship to really consider it that important of a ship tbh.JKincaid wrote:Something that's really bugged me as I read the description of UPP and IB soldiers when in their ERT's... Re: USCM Special Unit
I would whitelist this special unit but only with the most robust, PGamers of the whole server. Think, this ERT is sent to kick ass and save lives. Not RPing a love history between a marine and a female doctor. The moment the ERT's are sent everyone is on full combat mode, no time to talk, pray and pass the ammo. We already have our Full RP whitelist: Synths.
