Marine (and other boots-on-ground troops) RP ceiling and you.
How far do you guys think RP should be taken as far as Marines go (PFC to SSGT)? What do you guys expect from other players as far as RP goes? I've always been curious what other players thing about RP on non-rp servers, how far do you think is too far (cringe-zone wise). Personally I think anything that 'disrupts' the gameplay to center around one player is too far for MediumRP and below. It works on other servers, but I have seen instances where players will drop what they are doing to further the relationship with other characters.
Of course, I always thought mediumRP is sort of a double standard because it promotes RP but it also needs players to focus on the gameplay, for example on Paradise people are allowed to get married but most of the community focuses solely on gameplay rather than RP (which I feel like causes a disconnect in the community). For those of you who do promote RP, at what times do you think RP is okay? At what times do you think is it inappropriate?
And for RP, what is your best experience with it inside of CM? Worst (and/or cringiest) experience?

Personally I find plenty of chance to RP, even in intense combat. Of course, if you don't focus while in combat, and keep RP to a minimum, good chance you're going to die. But RP isn't just character development and relationships...plenty of RP can be simple and to the point.

The higher your rank the more RP you can and should be doing. Overall doing RP is well-viewed on this server.

I believe in the same thing yeah, SLs should be exempt though because good SLs are constantly strategizing and talking with their team/NCOsxywenx00 wrote:The higher your rank the more RP you can and should be doing. Overall doing RP is well-viewed on this server.

Roleplaying can be the same as gameplay
An experienced SL for example, wouldn't want to deal with people's bullshit and focus on the mission.
If you're a trained marine, you want to clear the area of hostiles before you get buddy-buddy with your friends

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. I was honestly prefer MORE RP rather than less. Lots of people just ignore you when you try to RP, and fine, they are worried about getting murdered, but still. Each round already works like some kinda theater play, where everyone is acting out more or less the same comic tragedy every time.

Re: Marine (and other boots-on-ground troops) RP ceiling and you.
Man I can't get enough RP! Love it! Of course I'm not going to be sitting there chatting if I'm in a fight, but if I'm wounded/FOB duty or something like that, it's fun to interact.
Best time, I was chilling and making stupid wisecracks with the LT and the squad, and in the round (it was the prison!) I was in critical a total of 9 times before dying. So almost every time I would say something like "the doctors must love me!!" Or "keeping you guys in business as usual!" And all the while freaking out cause, you know, dying.
Worst, I was playing Heinz Nuremberg (my jerry) and I got super ignored and I kinda gave up on talking to people. Happens from time to time anyways, it is mediumRP after all!

RP in CM isn't necessary as a marine, its completely optional, that said here's my experiences:
Cringiest: Anything Tanya Hernandez does.
Best: Holding the fucking line on Big Red to the point the xenos killed themselves to the last on our defences, not really RP but from in immersion standpoint it was friggin awesome to experience, it was like WO with less cancer.

Re: Marine (and other boots-on-ground troops) RP ceiling and you.
I find roleplaying extremely hard to do as a Marine. Not for lack of options, but for two big reasons:
The biggest is combat, when you're constantly moving and fighting it's extremely hard to work in any kind of character development, it all pretty much stops as soon as you start actively fighting.
Two is repetition, it's quite frankly very boring and stale to constantly re-do the same plot points over and over. Oh look a lizard/dog/local wildlife, oh look it's hostile/looked at me funny/spits acid
It can be quite annoying to have to rehash the same stuff over and over. Also if you're a doctor or something, the marines generally want you to fix them so they can get back to fighting, and any time you take to talk to them is time they're getting irritated at you.

I have to agree with Kulkamania, its difficult to communicate let alone RP when youre fighting and/or moving around. So it's hardest to RP as a groundside MArine, versus the other roles where you get to take your time. But I guess that just means we have to work at it

I always love me some comedic RP. It's probably why I like LRP servers so much.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Medium RP, but it's nice having a laugh once or a while, no?

I'm no model RPer but when it comes to CM, I expect some fun radio chatter and salutes. I haven't seen much cringe RP besides the flavor texts. As for the best RP, I've seen a lot of great RP but I can't remember any specific rounds.
As long as there's some unga dunga RO line, shooty shooty, game over man, and lizards. I think that makes for a good CM round.

When you're on the ground, it's all about picking the time and place. There's gonna be a lot more RP potential when you're sitting on FOB duty than when you're a medic at the front lines. Bring a deck of cards, sit around, smoke and chat while the engineers do all the hard work on the FOB.

Combat logs needs to be hidden that is the single most things why things get chaotic cause you see 50 logs of you firing your gun then a smidge line runs through giving orders and it get cloggeds back by even more combat logs. It's a hinder in rp on CM and im a bit surprised there isn't a update to filter that stuff out yet.
