A Hand-Holding, General Server Starter Guide -by mizolo

Post by mizolo » 12 Sep 2017, 11:02

You see this new server ... Colonial Marines ... eh, i'll try it What on earth? What do I do in this server? HALP!

NEVER FEAR, for I am here!

Well first off you really ARE new to the server, ask a staff, they helped me TREMEEENDOUSLY when I started SS13 in near-end 2016, and they will help you, if they blatantly DON'T help you ... well ... i'm not gonna go there or say anything about that.

If you are new, don't play the first round you see ... THIS IS NOT A PRANK, AND NOT A JOKE ... familiarize yourself with the ship ... the map ... the equipment the marines use ... things like that.

Table of Contents:
1: Rules? UGH
2: Spawning in
3: Comms
4: Briefing and Attachments
5: Target Practice
6: Your First Drop
7: Tactics of the Corps
8: RP, first contact, and the "introduction" to hell

1: Rules? UGH
► Show Spoiler

Alrighty enough rules, LET'S GO ALREADY!!!

Alright, alright, calm down, I know you're excited to shoot some bugs/xenos, but you need to know things first.

2: Spawning In & Getting Prepped
► Show Spoiler

Alright, you may hear some chatter over comms ... but ... how do I use my headset?

3: Communications 101:
► Show Spoiler
ALRIGHTY, LET'S KICK SOME XENO BUTT ... wait ... what's that announcment? BRIEFING? Do I HAVE to go to that???

4: Briefing, attachments, and assignments.
► Show Spoiler

5: Target Practice, not just for the noobs, it's for pro's as well, calm down, I even use it.
► Show Spoiler
6:
Your First Drop, and most likely your worst.

And in this RP life, most likely your last.

► Show Spoiler

7: Tactics of the corps:
► Show Spoiler
8: RP, First contact, and the introduction to hell
► Show Spoiler

The list is endless on what can happen, and it's a little different every round.

Unfortunately, the game meant to have a "perfect imbalance"

This means the xenos ... usually ... well ... win.

HOWEVER, NEVER FEAR, FOR AN ERT DISTRESS CALL IS ...

pizza???

That was supposed to be delivered a WEEK AGO!!! ... welp ... we're fucked.

When the xenos take control of the DS, and crash into the ship, command may send out a distress beacon, calling possible reinforcements ... or the dreaded XRT, a ship full of xenos from the long-lost ghost ship of the USS Sulaco.

prime and launch escape pods,

and best of all ways to go out ...

Arm the Self-Destruct

If you live long enough to be at the ship and the Dropship is on a collision course ... well ... i'm not gonna tell you what to do ... that's up to you ... godspeed marine, for he has a hard-on for marines, because we kill ... everything we see.

It's really an informative guide! I just think you need to clean up your formatting a bit.

You use a lot of unnecessary or not useful for a new player information. You add in several places stuff that just isn't necessary that if cut would leave your main guide intact, and easier to read to boot! All in all good stuff you should just consider cutting down on some of the stuff in parentheses, it seems to usually be kind of irrelevant.

It reads a bit like you didn't look over it or preview it. For instance your .p command came out like a :p so it could be a bit confusing
I play Mack Lewis!

ok, i'll clean up the format right now, I also DID notice I included a LOT of unnecessary information, cleaning it up RN.

This is actually a really good guide, i wish it had been around when i first played. However, it is really long, maybe condense it down a bit? try summarising it into key points...actually i guess you do need to be more detailed on certain points, but meh i'm no literary professor or CM expert so i dunno.

I'd also add the mag harness is a very useful attachment.

It takes the rail slot so you can't use it with the rail flashlight but basically if you drop your gun for any reason, it goes into the armour slot instead of falling on the ground.
When I roll standard I often take a pulse rifle with the flashlight and a shotgun with a mag harness.

Also you can function just fine without any attachments if you really don't want to wait in line.
