I will salute my battle-brothers if they are good and generally-respectable people. I do not care about ranks; I care about martial prowess.
The only time actual military personnel would salute a 'battle-brother' is if said battle brother was about to die or leave the military honourably, oh or if they have certain medals or during a medal giving ceremony.

I generally use saluting as a sign of respect, doesn't matter if its the commander or some random boot like me

Nope Soviets only called civilians or people lower down or equal to them comrade
(so a Major might call a conscript comrade but the conscript wouldn't call the major comrade he would call them Sir/Ma'am)
Did I say soviets, comrade?

We aren't the USMC we are the USCM and don't need to strictly adhere to real life marine terms and regulations. I think being a fictional sci fi future military force created in the 80s for a movie can excuse some of the discrepancies between how we play and real life.

Remember that the Marines in the movie were based off of US Marines in Vietnam, specifically conscripts who were far less disciplined and personalized their armor.

Now, being serious, don't expect players to act as real life marine corps, they won't ever. Did you had military training? I know there is stuff that makes you go rage in the game when you had it but that's not the players fault, since we don't enforce actual military behaviour as a rule but as a IC thing. Regardless, you can always say the USCM are an undisciplined, badass and ghetto branch of the military filled with poor, thugs, addicts and scum of society.

They could still call them comrade, just include their rank as well. "Comrade Polkovnik".

There, boom. Now when we have UPP games your RP is on fleek.

Depending on what year you all are talking about, the Soviet Union did get rid of ranks briefly and had you address them by Position.
#All men are created equal.

Also arent we all guilty of putting things in our pockets? Hardly muhreen discipline going on in the USCM.

You are wrong. Even in modern Russian army, private should call the major as Tovarisch Mayor (or Comrade Major for proper English), there is no "sir" in ruskie army.

Also, in russian army, its obligatory to salute anyone who is higher than you in rank and you can also salute someone of your own rank to show your respect. Its in words, but in most situations, sergeants are not saluted.

Well you learn something new everyday, although i thought they were only referred to as comrade during the period up to the change in rank structure in 1924?

No, it became a classic trait for russian armed forces, but not for modern russian civilians, of course.

Whenever I'm SL and someone salutes me I tell them to fuck off or give them the old "I work for a living". Same if someone calls me sir. NCOs don't like getting saluted/called sir IRL, they'll either laugh at you thinking you're a boot or jack you up.

I tore a private to pieces the other day over saluting me, a Sergeant. I kinda feel bad for him. I imagine he was bug eyes the entire time.
