Stop saluting Enlisted and NCO's!

Post by RobBrown4PM » 21 Oct 2017, 17:02

Nothing grinds my gears more than seeing some PFC saluting a Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, or another member of the Enlisted ranks. Please, for the love of all that is holy, stop doing this. I die a little bit inside every time I see this.

I just look forward to the day I'm SL and someone salutes me or calls me "Sir". That will be an epic ass chewing.

Well is it any worse then the people that normally just shit on the SL or ignore them completely? At least the people saluting are trying to show some respect even if they are a bit misguided. Also any SL that tries to get their squad to not salute them or call them sir will probably just end up getting the whole squad doing it to spite them.

Yeah saluting NCOs really annoys me but even worse then that is when a PFC calls an NCO sir;
So here is my little bit of advice on what to call people:
Smart gunner=Lance, or Corporal
Medic/engineer= Corporal
Specialist= Sergeant or sar'nt
SL= Staff (don't bother with the sergeant bit unless you're being really formal)
MPs= Staff (as above)
CMP= Sir (only NCO you call sir as they are a warranted officer)
Officers(this includes pilot officers and ROs, also CE)= Sir (as they are fully commissioned)
Cargo technicians= same as for specialist as they are sergeants
Maintenance techs= As above (well they are actually technical Sergeants...but i doubt anyone actually addresses them as such)

Remember you don't salute the person you salute the rank, and you don't address the person you address the rank; so NCO's(as they have not received a commission are by rank e.g Staff, corporal etc.) but warrant officers and Commissioned officers have received a warrant or full commission so you salute that and call them Sir/Ma'am
And NEVER SALUTE WHEN GROUNDSIDE AND ONLY SALUTE IF YOUR ARE WEARING HEADGEAR(i.e beret, cap NOT HELMETS OR BANDANAS)

DON'T SALUTE ALIENS OR PREDS THEY ARE XENO SCUM SO THEY ARE A LOWER RANK THEN ANY MARINE OR CIVVIES

Instruction unclear, saluted Liaison.

But actually helpful. Please add MTs and Cts to the list so people stop thinking they are civilians.

Well, if I'm saluting someone its to show respect and rank ain't got nothing to do with it.
Secondly, if my SL is going to get snippy for calling him sir then fine. I'll turn off my sensors and headset and go see what the grapes are up to.

Three questions:
Is it really that bad?
Aren't drill sergeants addressed as Sir in all the movies?
Can we call civilians(liaison, colonists) Sir and Ma'am? Is it even ok as an officer?

You only address a Drill Sergeant as Sir when you're a recruit, and you're suppose to call the Mister, Miss, Misses, ETC.

1. YES IT IS
2.Marine Corps DIs(drill instructors) will view being called drill sergeants as an insult as that is an army term (similar to how marines are insulted if they are called soldiers), and as such DIs (even though their rank may be sergeant) are referred to as sir/ma'am, but anyone who is no longer a recruit will call a DI by their rank (officer recruits do this to) ; however, many marines will pay respect to their former DI by calling them Sir
3.Yes civilians are referred to as Sir/Madam (although this is not mandatory, so marines are allowed to not call civvies sir/ma'am)

If you salute someone who shouldn't be saluted that is bad RP on your part (although i guess a marine might do it to annoy someone or sarcastically) because a marine will have near perfected drill and courtesies at Boot-Camp, so a marine would never salute someone who isn't meant to be.

Nope Soviets only called civilians or people lower down or equal to them comrade
(so a Major might call a conscript comrade but the conscript wouldn't call the major comrade he would call them Sir/Ma'am)

Funnily enough certain military buildings/objects are saluted, for instance an officers barracks may be saluted, a flag may be saluted, ships are saluted and things of military heritage (monuments etc.)

I will salute my battle-brothers if they are good and generally-respectable people. I do not care about ranks; I care about martial prowess.
