Personally I'd say Chaplain. It's a nice RP position that could help deal with the dead and dying, as well as give marines someone to bitch to about command besides the MPs.

Xenobiologist. Don't ask why.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

From an IC perspective, having a Weapons/Munitions/Gunnery officer who manned (commanded the crews of) the various ship-to-ship weaponry would make sense.

Reroll the Staff Officers into various types of gunners and introduce actual platoon commanders. Say one Lieutenant for two squads, so there's a one tasked with Alpha and Bravo and one tasked with Charlie and Delta. LT is tasked with organizing those two squads on the ground as well as talking up to the gunnery officer and the RO who would send the equipment down.

This platoon leader would bridge the gap between squad leaders, high command, and each other, leaving squad leaders to manage their squads and the LTs to manage their platoon. Squad Leader could still talk up if needed, but it'd be an LT job more often than not.

Chaplain would also be cool. He already has a quarters. Every chaplain I've ever met has been an officer, so he could be a Major or something rather. Maybe even give him a bodyguard as well. The guy who carries the weapon he can't.

Chaplain for sure. I love RP-centric roles like the liason, and I wish there were a few more to choose from, such as a judge advocate or intelligence officer, but those roles kinda feel filled by the command staff already.

This too, I like the idea of the marine forces becoming more complex and diverse, kinda how Jadgjes said. Could give those old missile tubes near CIC a good use...

A role who loads and maintains the OB cannons, loads them, repairs, changes parts etc. I think that’d be fun.

I spent a low pop round as a MP that posted up in medbay and noticed how overworked doctors can be. I tried to help by moving the SSD and dead while a skull fractured medic was doing pre-care and scans to free up the doc for surgery. I think we could use orderlies to preform those tasks to free up docs and keep the medbay decapitated corpse free.

I would like to expand on these two a bit. A Judge Advocate deployed on a combat-ready patrol mission would just be a standard SO, so it makes no sense to have a special role for it anyhow, best left to RP character backgrounds.

However, I believe that the Intelligence Officer role I have worked up in my head could enrich rounds with high-rp action. Basically its like this:

Intelligence Officer
  • Either has a personal nook and console in the CIC or their very own room.
  • Works mainly as a counterpoint to the CL, informing the USCM high command of what the situation is and what actions are being taken.
  • Like the CL, can request supplies, troops, and other aid to questionable success.
  • Also like the CL, deals with complaints and reports made by the marines.
It never made much sense to me how little seems to be reported to USCM high command about what caused the distress signal to be sent, and making an rp-centric role that fills this gap of communication would make me very happy inside.

Thus makes loads of sense as IRL naval ships always(in uk anyway) have inteliigence departments usually a few officers and a couple of NCOs. So it would make sense that a combat ship operating alone in the far reaches of space would have some sort of intelligence officer to report to high command and deal with classified matters(such as dealing with the aftermath of CLF or UPP activities?).

Along with the Chaplain (a staple in pretty much any military ship/squad), this makes the most sense. It will also give the CL someone he can play with, it always feels lonely as a CL unless W-Y pays attention.

Nothing so general. I mostly want someone who's job it is to manage the chaos of medbay. Even on normal rounds people will just drag SSD people out to the hall and leave corpses in the lobby in and out of body bags. The wounded will just crowd the back halls of mebay and demand treatment and sometimes wounded medics will try and help out even though they need surgery too. It seems like a cluttered madhouse and I think orderlies could really help out. I also think it could be a decent place to start your medical career without taking a precious doctor or combat medic slot.

A nurse-type job with medical skill on the medic's level would definitely be something good for those wishing to try out the medic role without becoming bogged down in FOB hell or OR hell. Basically just 2-3 nurses that spawn with the jobs of keeping medbay clean and attending to low-level injuries.

As of now, people go as far to choose random names when they first play medic to avoid stigma. With a nurse role, new players could more comfortably learn how the medical system works, especially now that the skill system is in place and standards cant learn at their own pace. So lets say...

Nurse
  • Skill level comparable to medics without combat training, can read pills and use injectors/syringes, but CANNOT operate
  • Main duties are to clean medbay, attend to low-triage wounded, transport wounded to medbay, and run errands for the doctors/CMO
  • Are most likely civilian contractors, but could be ranked marines if thats accurate
  • 1-3 spawn depending on server pop

Hearing the suggestion for an Intel Officer just like, blew my mind. That could be some awesome shit.

I've been playing a lot of CL lately because it's just fun not to have any real "Responsibility" during the round and just getting to do your own thing. Spending 7 minutes to write a report that MAYBE someone will read is also pretty darn radical. My only problem with CL is the fact that you work for W-Y and not the USCM. If we had a counter part to the CL that was actual USCM that would be real swell.

Also Chaplin, totally cool. I'd be down for playing some hardcore chaplain rounds just hearing marines last words and all that jazz.
