I dont know about the rest of you, but fire teams are insurmountable towards my squad's efficiency. (Or maybe that's just Bravo Squad being Best Squad.)
Give your Spec half your squad as a Fire Team Leader and see what he can do.
I personally use Fire Teams to ensure everyone knows the squad's Chain of Command, encourage leadership qualities in your NCOs, and promotes discipline and directive.
And have seen a great increase in my men's accountability after Fire Teams were added.

Re: My tips for SL-Leadership
Good tips been putting some into practice. Still a bit of a new SL
Ive noticed so much depends on your spec/SG/med/engi ranks to keep it together on assaults and the marines are more the meat in between to back them up. Ive had great rounds when the spec and smartgunner were always on hand ready to respond quickly to orders. I usually put myself 3rd line (if marines with CQ weapons are 1st, spec and SG are 2nd, engis a small rear guard and medic 4th) so basically mid ground.
I find as long as a say something at least once a minute ill keep some attention. There is always one dumbass who ends up screaming for help to save him after you repeatedly tell the squad not to leave a dome/position.
Also always try to give my spec a supply beacon and sometimes carry my smartgunners spare on my back splitting my gear onto my webbing and pouches. Means i carry less of my own but also means a supply beacon cam be spent on something else rather than powerpacks 30 mins in
