Sadly there's not too many vets kicking about nowadays, but I remember those days yeah.

good old days, I assume you've just come back to the game considering the date your forum account was made, but you might not have had one

who do you play in game btw?

I managed to get unlucky and join a few months after they'd updated to the sulaco, but even that had some good nostalgia, like all the old maps and silly FOB strats you could get away with.

Or raiding other engie preps in superlowpop and filling up a crate with all the shit you'd get, then raiding engineering for even more metal and plasteel. FOB-Inna-Box was probably the most enjoyable thing I ever did.
Garth Pawolski, or is it Powalski?

One of my first memories was some chick dual wielding SAW LMGs. Also me taking on half the hive with a knife and riot shield because they blocked stuns.

Those were the days :)

Back when things were a huge clusterfuck, squads didn't even exist, it was just one big blob of marines and the commander. It somehow worked, maybe because the pop wasn't nearly as high as it is now.

I remember back when Smartgunners were a type of Spec and not a separate class, back when alien spits were almost worthless due to their slow rate of fire, when helmets used to defend against huggers due to the heavy focus on hugger combat...

Just too many things to list... I been playing for almost a year now, and seen the game change so much. I can imagine the pride the dev team feel seeing how far this game has grown.

All of these on Box (Nostromo)
Those last stands in briefing on Box, big beautiful fortresses built by the best engis.
Medbay FOBs were fun, as were Arrivals FOBs.
Viro and xenobio hives were meatgrinders in the style of Verdun.
Old weapon sprites taken from TG (syndie CR20s anyone?)
What the fuck is balance????
Hugger lockers (if anyone remembers these, good GOD....)
Aliens has crazy shit that I cant remember off the top of my head.
Crazy marine strats, other fun shit.

Sometimes, I miss that part of the game.
"Huh, would you look at that... We are screwed yet again."
Plays as Phil "Termite" Smith

You can give a smartgun to every marine, and they would still find a way to FF with it.

I remember the admins constantly screaming at people to stop taking Welding Helmets and Biosuit Masks until after the xeno threat of facehugging was confirmed, I think there was one shit show where people got mad at a Engineer for using a welding mask.

Virology or Xenobiology were massive shit shows and the constant atmo issues made assaulting it a nightmare.

I do recall that the majority of FoBs were made in either the Bridge or the arrivals hallway.

Amusing times.

I remember that.. I use to be one of the engineers going around trying to keep the atmospheric pressure alive and well. Fixing huge ass holes or ceiling off entire sections to restore some semblance of normal air pressure etc.

I miss the MG nests that fired the bullets one tile away from the actual gun itself, it allowed one marine to sit in the nest and his buddy to stand directly in front of him to prevent spitters from stunning the gunner himself. Corridors of cheesy death. Good times.

The FOBs on the "Nostromo" boxstation were the best and most fun to defend, especially the bridge, engineering, or hallway FOBs. The station was small enough that stalemates weren't really a thing, and xenos tended to start to skirmish within the first ten minutes that the marines landed. The atmosphere was also much creepier, what with the dark maintenance shafts for marines to get dragged away into, never heard from again.

I also loved the security and xenobio hives. Having variable hive locations is something that always added an air of mystery (even if they did go xenobio 80% of the time).

I have another good memory of pressing into sec with charlie and alpha, everyone getting slaughtered, and running back to the FOB in a panic with only my boot knife left. We lost that round, but it felt good, not just another forced retreat.

Oh, and the pink hivelords were great.

If I recall, Marine victories were a rare thing to occur. It was almost always a Xeno victory.

Due to combination of the map advantaging the xenos, early mechanics, atmo issues, etc, etc.

Still was fun and the game left a lot to the imagination due to the non-existent unique graphics for many parts.
