On Squad Preferences

Post by Monoo » 20 Nov 2017, 18:46

I've always liked the random squad aspect that came in when the Alpha version dropped, so I've rolled with no preferred squad ever since the update that allowed you to pick one. I like wearing different stripes and seeing different people every game.

However, lately I've noticed a lot more "clique" like behavior, what with people identifying each other by their preferred squads and forming stereotypes by squad.

I wanted to see what everyone's opinions are on the preferred squad option. Do you like switching it up every time? Or do you prefer being in the same squad and forming relationships with the others that also stay in that squad?
I play as this guy, proudly being dismembered by extraterrestrials since 2015.
Sometimes I might play other guys, you never know.

I had the preferences on random for a long time, but at the end, after watching how briefings are made and 2/3 of the times charlie/delta get scouting duty / first squad to go to the frontlines I picked Charlie.

Because, Fuck FOB duty

I kinda like it for now, makes the marines seem homely and it doesn't appear to be too obnoxious.

Hopefully it doesn't become an elitist thing.

Even when I get rolled into another squad besides Delta, I still start off by using the :d radio code and then immediately think "Shit, wrong radio!"

I'm just too dim in the brain to not have a squad pref. Shame I lumped for Delta, which turned out to be the elite spec ops of CM.

...No, wait, Delta is the elite spec ops of CM because I'M in it. Yeah!

Pretty sure we all called Delta Deltards long before we could choose to be in Delta, I personally enjoy Bravo just because iv been it it the longest due to RNG.

Delta pretty much because blue text is easier to read and keep track of. Oh and because I enjoy the people that are regular deltards.

Sometimes delta kicks ass, and sometimes delta all dies. There isn't much of an in-between. Once a deltard, always a deltard

Used to be a hardcore Bravo way back, decided to change to Charlie because constant FoB duty was tearing away at my soul and I wanted to become more robust.
Phillip Driver, jack of all trades, reliable in some. Your typical jumpy flamer PFC or ammo fumbling CPL, always has a pair of ballistic goggles on him for unknown reasons. Will probably die mid sentence, because he talks (and gets bullied) too much for his own good. He has his moments though.

Jim, a Gen 2 Synthetic. Has a tendency to get melted to bits when planet side, and that's when he's behind barricades. Despite that, he's vigilant and always ready to drag you out of danger, even if it damages him in the process.

I'm an agressive SL and PFC/Spec, so I'm more inclined squads being able to perform offensives.

Delta : Offensive, risky gamble, always fucking fun to play with due to comms being ultra memy.

Charlie : Offensive, but really not fun to play with. Most marines in there want to look badass by not being able to perform memy and spicy talking.

Alpha : Quite good actually, individually, there are some robust players but many baldies. Yet, they are really obedient and can perform miracles with good tactics and a good SL. (I may think about maining Alpha SL for a time). But yet, not many spicy/memy comms.

Bravo : Super calm squad, obedient squaddies. You feel good as a SL, but damn.. performing offensive is impossible. Squaddies tend to pussy out, getting clumsy, cannot perform firing support or push without FFing, getting rekt or else..

So, Delta pref. If I get bored, I'll go Alpha preff. (Pref with 2 f, because Alpha FF : BWAHAHAHHA).

I love Charlie to pieces, and I insist on Charlie breakfast everytime I'm SL. I made a meme character named Hyun Daihatsu and he was my first and only time as a deltard but oh man, so much different from Charlie. Think I might switch over for a week, just to get a taste of the memes

Delta 4 lyfe. Big fan of the other regulars who seem to pref Delta.

I think people referring to them as Deltards keeps away the edgy 'badass' snowflake marines, and draws in the underdogs or people who don't give a shit about how other players perceive them, so you usually end up with the fun people who don't take the game too seriously and just want a good time at meme school.

I medic a lot though so most of the time I don't really get a choice what squad I get dumped in.

Preference system's good, people using it - not so much. It's a nice thing to play as a part of your favourite squad, be consistent when it comes to RP, whatever. But I feel like people started their cliques inside of the squads and that is an issue.
A failure, also called a semi-competent medic sometimes.

Whenever I play delta, I feel ignored. They leave me behind wounded to die etc. Talk only among themselves. I could never feel a part of them. It's also awful when someone rolls another squad and leave their assigned squad as a medic to heal the deltas instead.

Other squads don't feel so closed.
