I'd like to see CO's show a bit more balance in play style. Often it seems they're either not paying attention (fucking w/ CL or burning bridges with SOs/XO) to marines while ship side or balls deep in xeno territory on planet. With all the current tools available marines should be able to have ample leadership planetside (also it fucking sucks for everyone else when CO goes planetside to suicide in 5 mins) so that CO can fulfill the role of trying to organize them from above with what info they get from the SOs.
Hey, i don't go planetside to suicide. I go planetside to look through my binoculars and gather intel! It has a function!
Plus, it makes me feel like I'm motherfuckin' general George Patton. I just look at the fight from a distance and point at where i want people to be. If the CIC team isn't shit the XO can handle yelling at the LTs, who will handle the logistics as they are supposed to instead of, say, shooting the CMP or whatever shit they do instead of being functional members of command staff.
Really. A CO going planetside is useful, especially for the CO - it makes it easier to get information out of the marines, and to just be with them just to show the marines that you're not "that kind of commander", and have actual faith in them to protect you, if need be. (Even if that faith is sometimes misplaced).
I'm playing a character here. And sitting in the CIC yelling at shmucks gets boring. I can win fights by being on the ground, WITHOUT fighting in the frontlines.
Of course if the shipside is having trouble i WILL go back to fix the issues and handle the commanding from the ship if the XO really can't handle it/there's trouble afoot.
