Moments in your CM career that have made you gone, "Wow"

Post by SaltyMouthful » 11 Dec 2017, 20:18

*Edit This post was first the most UNROBUST thinh you've done, but that has already been made, so I changed the theme.

In games, no matter what, we've always had those moments that make you go in awe, for SS13 based games, I feel like it is strange, because of the form the game is in.

Are there any moments that have instilled a sense of awe, or surprise? What is perhaps the moest amazing thing you've seen in all of CM, be it new features, Roleplay interactions, feats of robustness, or Admin intervention.

Well, I changed the topic, I just wished to start a discussion of sorts. I probably should have done more research to see if my post had already been started.

We'll just ignore that you messed up in the beginning and i'll start the trend. Feweh was doing one of his tribe rounds. Now this was one of the few moments in CM where I was amazed. SO, it starts off. Everything goes well, yada yada, but at the end was where it was fucking legendary and I wont ever forget it in all of my gaming career. I remember that Feweh made us all go to the dropship, at LZ1 on LV for evac. All the tribes went there, and eventually hellhounds were set there. I got there late, so I barely made it onto the dropship, which at the time was the Rasputin. The hellhounds made me fall, right infront of the dropship, but some how, I got back up and just barely made it into the dropship, before the shutters were closed. This is not the amazing part though. If any of you remember the tribe rounds, all the tribes vs eachother for loot and gain. But here on the dropship, everyone was working together. Other tribes were healing other members, and nobody killed each other.

However.... Feweh was not happy with that. He demanded that we fought, or else.... but nobody fought. Instead we all yelled, "PEACE!" and "THE POWER OF LOVE WILL BE NOT BE BROKEN!" and random stuff like that. Even when Feweh was demanding it, all the tribes worked together in such a small space, and nobody fought... it got to the point where Feweh legit had to spawn himself as a pred, and run into the dropship and self destruct. Only two people lived... and they killed each other. Now I THINK that ironically, Bill Carson won. But I might be talking out of my ass because it was so long ago. But honestly, this surprised me the most because I thought that everyone would just start killing each other.... but... just wow.

First time experiencing the zombies. I had no idea what was happening and I was panic decapping anyone in paincrit and yelling at command to save us. I was the last person on the ground to get overrun alongside 2 other marines.

Totally got spooked the first time a zombie got back up from the dead

First time playing prison as Bravo SL.

"I'm deploying an OB, do not fire until I say so."

Drops the OB and immediately the BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP goes off.

"You just fucked us Command!"

Watch in awe as the entirety of Bravo and Delta get destroyed by an OB because the SO spam clicked the fire button.

Doing the heroic holding the fob as a smartgunner as the last wounded and sentrys got loaded onto the DS. Planned to be a hero and hold them off while the others made it out jumping onto the DS at the last second

Right as the barricades were falling and the DS was taking off some idiot fires a burst of AP from the door hitting me and ripping my arm off as well as shattering my leg leaving me to bleed out watching the ship fly away

Probably the time I was a W-Y smartgunner and single-handedly (by myself, not literally missing a hand) held off around three or four T3's, downed two and then got stuck next to a barricade a marine put up next to me which forced me to be a martyr

The SL and I gave conflicting orders at the same time, and it caused a small group of about five marines to get lost. I told them to hole up in a building and I'll have someone come walk them back to the main group in a few minutes.

Came back to them being completely dead. Not a scream or shout on the radio, just spent shells, a steaming pile of xeno gibs and five corpses. No one knew what happened. They told me they were cold one minute, the next they were completely dead with no medic anywhere within saving distance.

I think through gratuitous amount of FF and acid from the xeno corpse they all died, but I never got a look at the corpses other than on camera. Maybe it was my abyssmal SO leadership that caused a suicide pact. I still wonder.

I remember in SD one time.

I cant remember his name but he used the COs corpse to hide under in the pillar room while everyone got slaughtered by xenos. They hung around for a bit but eventually left leaving him to wait it out till the pillars rose and become a legend

I will never forget this. Shotgunning is a rarity now.
SD room, commander Balto is around. I’m rocking medic.
I have nobody to heal and the Xenos are coming, I whip out my badass shotgun and I fired, accidentally leaving help intent on. I accidentally shifted with balto, and shot him in the face! My CO! I’m like “Woops!” And heal him up. I switch my intent to disarm, and pump my shotty. I move up a space, and fire. Someone pushes me, and I fire my shotgun into Balto AGAIN! His face AGAIN!
I started healing him, but by that time I was just laughing at my screen as the SD got overrun.

We were at an interesting event.

Early in the round, Feweh had made the entire Almayer crew evacuate to the planet, since we were being attacked by hostile ships. I was exercising the role of CL, and had been late for the evacuation. Unfortunately, the way to the dropships was completely destroyed, and my only option was to go to the research wing, equip the biosafety equipment along with its internals and try to get dropship. It was an extremely robust moment, as well as having had this brilliant idea, the missiles were practically following me, however I managed to arrive in time on the dropship and evacuate to the colony.

After a lot of time and a lot of RP, when we had reached the end of the round, Feweh gave me a purpose; find the code of a nuclear device in the colony and detonate it if necessary. I found the device and the code, and immediately went back to the center of the Nexus with the nuclear bomb.

When we were losing our last stand, the XO, who suspected that I was to blame for the death of his marines, stole the Nuke disk from me and started arguing. I was running out of time, I had to persuade XO to give me the disk before it was too late (aliens breaching the FoB).

After having RPed with him, debating his suspicion of my participation in the destruction of Almayer and that I was innocent and that there was no other option, the XO provided me the disk and well when I put the disk on the nuclear device, a ravager began to target me.

I typed in the code desperately and when I finally got it, I was already dead before I even celebrated. I started the bomb and killed everyone who was there with me, ending the round doing so.

It was a great round. Feweh is extremely intelligent with his events, because he manages to create exceptionally interesting and memorable moments. Until today, I never understood why some complained about his events, which in my opinion were and are one of the server's most intriguing factors.

Feweh seems like a cool guy, I'm pretty sure it was him who started the event but I was a part of one of his custom events where we were. space pirates defending our crashed ship and for a good chunk of it we were just waiting for a target and I started talking about the potential I had for a tennis career and I threw out the offer that we should all play tennis sometime as a team-building exercise, I died to a boiler later on.

There was an MP alone in the self destruct - the Marines were fighting tooth and nail - and indeed, they held Xenos off just long enough for that final rod to get toggled...

The last few Marines screamed for the MP to fire the SD...

He decided he would wait until the Xenos were at the windows. But of course, with a slash of an APC, the fact he delayed cost him the chance to make the Marines sacrifice worth it!

Just before taking off with DS2, half of Delta decided to launch false alerts on the global radio shipside, accusing Charlies from shooting and executing doctors, starting firefights with delta, then, screaming that CLF was onboard.

Alert on level blue.

5 minutes after landing, announcement from Command that was a false alarm.

I never laughed so hard on CM than this moment.

Thanks Harry McLagan for starting this, and the rest of Delta for following him (I didn't join, it was only mah 5th or 7th round, and I was too busy giggling like 7 y-o girl behind mah PC)

According to Apop I say "Wow" a lot in general so probably most things.

But if I had to name a few in particular they probably be,
  • On the old Sulaco map whenever someone managed to evacuate because they were hiding.
  • Whenever on the old map again that the Supermatter blew up anywhere other then engineering.
  • A few blatant griefs.
  • Great ahelp responses.

The map was LV-624. I don't remember exactly how far through the round we were, but I have a feeling an admin wanted it to end, so all marines piled into DS1 and dropped to the LZ.

Once landed we were told that DS1 had suffered a malfunction and wouldn't be able to return, so we had to stand and fight while it was repaired. After holding off attacks pretty well for quite some time we were informed that repairs were impossible, and we would either have to eliminate the enemy forces or make a break for LZ2.

A large group of us made a break for it from the south exit of the DS, following the hedge line along the bottom of the map. Lots of us got picked off one by one, or scattered by the sporadic xeno attacks, until there were only three of us left as we passed under engineering and telecomms. I got pounced and savagely clawed, but the other two guys saw the hunter off and began dragging my battered body towards LZ2.

The entire way they managed to fight off opportunistic xenos while dragging my incapacitated fat ass.

Eventually we made it to LZ2, and i got patched up. We held it tight while other scattered groups of marines showed up. DS2 finally landed and was filled with dying and injured marines, the last few capable of us keeping back the growing hoarde of xenos that were showing up. After what seemed like an eternity, the PO announced that DS2 was ready to go, everyone onboard!

I was the last one outside holding off the xenos and made a run for the doors at the last second. It was a second too late. I was left stood on the LZ alone, surrounded by xenos. With a final "Aw shieeeet" I was torn apart in a frenzy of claws and teeth.

Nothing left but a sad and lonely corpse on its back in the middle of the LZ, and a huge throng of xenos slowly dissapating off to search the rest of the colony. It couldn't have felt more like a movie moment unless the camera slowly panned out into the air as raindrops landed on my lifeless face and the music 'Gandalfs Fall' began to play.

I remember not too long ago of a marine who was infected/badly wounded. We put him in a stasis bag and brought him to the medbay. He then proceeded to BURST AND LIVE (I assume that the stasis bag delayed the massive burst of damage that usually kills them, can someone explain how that works BTW?). He was still talking and shit, just freaking out (as were we) over the situation. There was then a massive argument of the ethics of keeping this man alive in the stasis bag even as its charge was starting to get low. Eventually, we decided to open the bag and mercy kill the poor sod. We killed the larva pretty quick too IIRC.

Man, that shit was fucked up, we were losing our minds over it.
