"Screecher down!"

Post by x31stOverlord » 25 Jan 2018, 05:24

Just a small nitpicking discussion on the new queen and the typical "Screecher down" cries of Victory against the xeno scum as the Queen meets her demise.

However, some rounds I've seen queens killed who had not once used the screech ability, one notable death was a SSD queen and a flank from alpha before they were all suitably demolished by a horde of angry xenos.

The marines in question collectively began screaming in comms about how "The Screecher is down!!" How and why they would use the phrase when the queen had not once screeched is curious. I know it's just a remnant of phrase used and stuck in the minds of all. But taken subjectively may in fact verge on the fence of Meta.

Maybe not. Who am I to say.

What should the marines call a queen if they don't witness the awesome vocal cords of a death metal singer? Your thoughts on the subject are as always valued by myself!

Depends on how much you care about it. First time someone gets hit by a boiler cloud it's fair game to avoid. I mean. Logically speaking you can assume anything flying towards you spat by a gigantic fucking terrorfying looking monster is something you don't want to stand in.

Same vein as some xenos running onto the red laser marker of CAS and dying gloriously. After that xenos avoiding red dots is fair game.

Depends on how far we are willing to step into the bounds of meta as individuals and as a community

Its an ingrainment for people wanting to avoid meta claims of referring to xenos by their proper names. Same as Facehuggers are called Crabs or Spiders, Predators are called Aliens (or retardedly Jamaicans) and similar.

I call queens queens

I also call ravagers ravagers, crusher crushers, and boilers boilers.

Is just easy to understand for most peeps.

The only exception to this is one first encounter, I'd call them by what they look like, then after that call them by name

Corpswoman Judith 'Mèrci' Clancy, quiet, caring daughter looking out for her siblings.

You can call them bugs immediately. And probably xenomorphs after talking about what they should be named.

Ye Xenomorph just means 'strange or foreign shape or form' in Latin.

It's pretty much just a scientific sounding way of saying unknown thing, and could apply to any weird animals or creatures a person comes across. Like how UFO doesn't always have to apply to alien spaceships, but can be literally anything that flies and you don't know what it is.

Xeno is just a latin word meaning "outside", hence xenophobia. Fun fact, X-COM soldiers call the enemies X-Rays instead of Tangos because X-ray is NATO for X, from Xeno.

So calling them xenos is perfectly fine.

Huh, maybe we could start using X-Ray we talking about xenos.

I prefer to call the queen "Big Mama" because calling it a queen seems very out of place for a marine.

In fact, I just prefer calling xenos "bugs" rather than lizards, because it is easier to say and more accurate.

Marines did infact name the casts. Hence why we call Spitters spitters. Drones behave in fashions one would say a drone would. Hunter's hunt. Crushers crush. the marines don't call Praes praes on a regular basis. I usually see 'Big spitter'. Boilers also are kinda obviously named.

It's really lame when people call spitters 'spitting ones', you're literally just calling them spitters in the most retarded way possible.

It's borderline stupidity, really. They're avoiding meta, by literally doing what no rationally thinking person, Marine or Civilian, would do.
