Abandoned mega FOB forts
A post of forts that ultimately abandoned, as a reminder to Engie that it is the weakest point that matters. And to command that if marines are surrounded, it is better to get them out before they got wiped (or no marine left to make a last stand at FOB).
LV-624 LZ breached
LV-624 Hydro, marines got ass kicked at caves, FOB SQ Alpha was late to reinforce, got ass kicked as well, leaving no marines to guard
Ice Colony, NE LZ breached plus open cade reeeeeeeeeeee, one/two layers
Big Red Tcoms breached, 5 layer fort
Big Red Tcoms breached, 3 layer fort
Big Red Tcoms breached, 4 layer fort
Big Red, marines surrouned and wiped bewteen Engineering and Fiteration, CO ordered reinforcements to LZ2, LZ1 fell with no marine to guard
Big Red Hanger breached, 4 layer fort
Big Red Hanger breached, 5 layer fort
Big Red Tcoms breached, 4 layer fort
Prison Station, LZ was breached long ago but no one fixed it (the metal stacks in FOB are 50s). Two dozens of marines are ordered to hold Yard but with no cades, surround and got picked off one by one, leaving no one to guard FOB.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
I think every engineer wishes they had full control over the design of the FOB, but the reality is they have to work with up to 11 other potentially uncommunicative squad engies with materials spread thin between them. That means lots of holes, undefended sides, and backwards turrets.
Anyway, FOB gets breached 95% of rounds, so there's only so much one class can do.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
The Five Layered Fort with the Mortar pit was amazing. We held off the xenos great. Brought them down to 8... Then Command screwed us/lack of rallying up so we lost around 12 plus marines to xenos. By the time of the DS flight I think they were at 20 plus xenos.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
That shit always makes me sad...
Moreso the Big Red FoBs. Notice that they are all the same in design, though?
Always in the same spot, with nothing in the rear. Meaning every single time, xenos just flank from one of the caves, melt their way inside and BOOM, all those defenses you built? Worthless.
Marines have a habit of putting their eggs all in one basket I notice. Moreso on Big Red than any other map. It gives them a false sense of security and confidence, when in reality their whole defense can be easily bypassed by simply walking around.
It is like WWII all over again, with the French and their great defensive line that they thought would take YEARS to breach, only for them to discover that the Germans were all like "nah, fuck dat shit" and they just went through another country instead to invade France. To this day, that defensive line is gathering moss as we speak, the pillboxes nothing but a tourist attraction now.

Yeah but big red is kinda supposed to be that way. The map doesn't do the cave behind the lz justice. Plus marines usually over estimate the protection those metal wall give them. I'd say that without sending some marines into the caves exploring command and the marines would not be in much of a position to fortify a walled off area. Heck the marines don't even barricade telecommunications usually until the aliens start melting into it.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
We can implement some kind of mechanism with wich Command can get a better scan or pictures from space and FOUND OUT this tunnels. THEN we can barricade it all.Sulaboy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2018, 23:41Yeah but big red is kinda supposed to be that way. The map doesn't do the cave behind the lz justice. Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
On the git lab there are some suggestions about scanning maps, but in reality the SL on scouting duty should be reading his map and seeing these areas, or an FT could be sent to check out the cave, the only problem Is that once the fighting starts the chance to scout out that cave is gone, and once the marines get pushed back the Xenos will use the enterance over there.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
My question is why isn't building inside the hanger done more often anyways? There is plenty of building space inside, almost as if it was designed to be built inside. yet, everyone always wants to build outside. Even when I order marines to BUILD INSIDE, they often ignore me and build outside.Sulaboy wrote: ↑24 Feb 2018, 23:41Yeah but big red is kinda supposed to be that way. What is so appealing about the outside that, despite getting screwed over time and time again, they keep doing it?
Marines will always confuse me, and I play mostly marine to begin with.

I was both Queens that round. We would have breached in the first push if I didn't get killed by a crusher bodyblock. Also Symb killed like 30 marines that round as ancient hunter.

Amen, lots of good ideas are lost because of the repetition of rounds. It becomes habit and gets repeated through rounds. A change in thought is great for gameplay though

You often are forced to take a leadership role via engi coms.Torrentia wrote: ↑24 Feb 2018, 06:57I think every engineer wishes they had full control over the design of the FOB, but the reality is they have to work with up to 11 other potentially uncommunicative squad engies with materials spread thin between them. ICly you have no idea that the Beanos can melt in from south of tcomms or north of the Hangar, at least until you see their acid at work, and thus fortifying inside the hangar rightly seems like a complete waste of time and resources. However, once you're made aware of the acid, tell them to fortify north of hangar and south of tcomms, preferably via the Engi coms and I'm sure you'll find them a lot more amicable to your suggestions.Renomaki wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 20:39My question is why isn't building inside the hanger done more often anyways? In my experience a lot of the other squad engies don't speak English or if they do it's very poorly. I get excited when I see lots of squad engineers I recognize! And no one uses the engineering channel besides MTs...Surrealistik wrote: ↑26 Feb 2018, 02:45You often are forced to take a leadership role via engi coms.

Re: Abandoned mega FOB forts
There was a time when building impenetrable FOBs was easy. A single man could hold off waves of xenos if needed. It was a glorious time... before the dark times.
