Making a 20 degrees Celsius area on Ice
On ice colony, most people will just turn on heaters and leave them at the FOB. This does jack of shit, it's trying to heat up too large an area, and ice walls/floors absorb heat, and can not be heated. This prevents field hospitals and general rest areas where marines can remove their coifs and relax. Here's how to fix that.
For reference, temperature was -50c.
1.) Can't be built on ice or snow floors - needs to be metal tiles or plating. They absorb heat. When I tried it on the tiles next to the LZ, the temperature never rose above -48c.
2.) Can't be bordering ice walls of any kind without insulation, glass works. Without the glass, the temperature was stuck around -30c, regardless of number of heaters.
3.) You need to change the heaters default temperature, as by default it's 70 degrees Celsius. This is around 150f. You will overheat the area if you keep the default setting on.
4.) You can't have too many heaters in it at once, as it will raise the pressure - I've talked to staff about the pressure issue, they said it's fine if you know what you're doing and don't cause it. With four heaters, and everything properly insulated, the pressure started to raise to around 115kPa before I took two of the heaters out.
5.) You'll need a makeshift airlock to keep the heat in, the one in this picture worked but some windoors would probably work better along with this. Putting one of your heaters in the airlock to keep it warm, and let less heat from the main area escape, would probably be a good idea as well.
The picture only shows 5 degrees, but it was raising steadily, I just had to evac early due to IRL things - it was 15c at one point, but someone left both doors open. Windoors would have solved that problem, but I didn't have the materials or time for that. It'll allow for field hospitals on ice, as well as general comfort zones for marines, where they will not need to wear coifs, so for RP. A problem is that there's not a whole lot of inflatable walls, as each box of inflatables has 4 walls, 3 doors, but glass can also work, it just doesn't look as nice, and isn't as easy to take down in an emergency. Overall, it's a nice way to quickly setup an area on ice above ground that's not freezing - with only inflatable barriers and glass, it'll take around 3 minutes to setup, and 5 to fully heat up, and with more complex things like windoors, it'll take around 5 to setup.

One can also seal up a building and restore power, but then theres the issue of it not being near the LZ
Also I just realized how I've never seen field suegeons on Ice

There is a stack of glass in Ice Colony engineering which is all you need, really, to set up something like this. Portable air pumps would help with your overpressure issue, but I can't say if there are any mapped on ice colony that you could repurpose -- may have to take one from the Almayer.
Overall not too useful though, field hospitals were hit anyway with the recent change to ghetto surgery and germs. Between that change, medevacs and perfect stasis bags there really is no point.

Nice as a little place to warm up. Saw something like this show up on an Ice round earlier

I always feel uneasy on Ice colony. It's the one map I can't afk quickly on. If I have to go to the toilet, I'll hold it. I don't trust shit. On any other map, you can go afk at the FOB and be relatively safe. On ice, you switch tabs for 3 seconds and before you know it, you're down in the hive with a xeno in you and are taking so much damage from the cold that you have no chance of a final act of glory or suicide.

This seems like something that the delAyliens would love to stomp.

The room got up to 25°C on that round. Though for some reason I still got frostbite when I took my coif off in there. If I get engineer again on Ice I might try again with it, especially as MT if you have a decent staff level. Gives something to do.

Re: Making a 20 degrees Celsius area on Ice
I wouldn't recommend wasting time to do this as a engineer, but I guess it is a nice little niche rp area. It's just not very functional to make a glass barricades zone within the FOB, as you need the room to move when combat arrives. It is also possible to raise the temperature in Hangar to a reasonable amount. Much easier to do so in fact, but you will have to fortify the area. It's also a little away from the LZ1 itself, so that's a con.
Being a bored MT, I guess they could use some time to set this up in a abandoned corner of the FOB, but I don't see this becoming common. I like the idea of it though.

You could also fortify the hangar area and fix all the glass windows to help keep it warm. Still a good idea though

Re: Making a 20 degrees Celsius area on Ice
Excellent tutorial. Going to attempt this again as I actually tried such a setup using metal walls and could not get it to work, perhaps the airlock was necessary!! Thanks for the trial-and-error testing! I still think it would be fun to have a little area East of the LZ1 on Ice, a little "Dropship Maintenance/Lighting Maintenance Shack" to stuff some docs. Also, I do not think the hanger can heat up correctly, I remember trying this when Ice first popped out. Something to try on the next Ice map, imo!
