If they’re going to add another role, I’d rather it be something useful like a ground-side leader rather than another fluff RP role. We already have CL, researcher, and MT for those, we don’t need another.

Something like a Sergeant Major to act as a link between marines and command, and also to instill discipline and morale.

MT might be more of a RP role, but it is not fluff. It is needed. I mean they COULD have the engines already set up roundstart with a infinite fuel supply, but where would be the fun in that?

Well to be any kind of counselor or therapist today it takes years of work and there's lots of room for abuse from someone meant to be trusted by the mentally ill or emotionally damaged, if the uscm was to hire someone to give spiritual counsel, handling buriel rights, and hold sermons they would need to be an officer be ause you probably couldn't trust any enlisted fuckwit to do something this important
I don't think I've ever met a Military Chaplain who wasn't an officer. Most of them hold significant rank as well.

I think the Chaplain could definitely bring some good arpee, but obviously it will bring some cons with it as well. What if the devs implemented some sort of buff for chaplains only, sorta like officer
s giving orders?

Or, being by marines would give them a damage boost or something? I like it.

I take it you haven't played in of those W-Y colony is perfectly fine and no xenos events, because in those you will find issue with more civilian roles rather quickly.

I take it I'm right when I say, most people go on CM to experience the combat and the RP surrounding that. Chaplain, Mememan or even the Researcher are roles that fit better in the normal SS13 setting and only really fluff roles on CM. Almayer would probably also need some serious layout changes to really embrace the ship RP.

Also, the chaplain being a civiallian role, it wouldent make much sense to have them be able to go down planetside alongside marines, as there a civ. And tbh i think the roles just a bit pointless really.

They wouldn't be civilian .

They would be support crew and still in the corps. Just not combat oriented hence being a military chaplain.

That's my take.

Ya as some of us said before, MOST chaplains are commissioned officers in the military. I'm speaking from Canada and the States, other countries of course may have it differently.

I've got it. A military Chaplain.

He's an officer and administers last rites, may have medical training, may have ability to Issue Orders, and a groundside/ship-side RP role.

I'd +1 it, but I can see reasons for concern. It should be made clear they are medium-High RP and Low RP with it is not tolerated.

Perhaps, the role may need to be tested.

I don't really understand the resistance to having more non-combat roles. People don't have to play them after all. Those who play CM for combat will still put spec as their highest priority and then squad marine. But for the people who already play as MTs and CL then what is wrong with having another option for them to play as, or one more person on the ship for them to interact with?

I didn't know that chaplains in the military were designated as military personnel so sorry about me ignorance. But rethinking it a chaplain would bring some good RP to the battlefield (as long as the person playing it isn't an unga) and create the possibility for some interesting characters too. Also adding new roles is normally good as it brings another way to play the game but thats just my opinion.

Ideas for the Chaplin. May require some balancing and coding for it all to work.

Working off of the recent idea of ' Buffs ' via orders akin to the officers. The Chaplin may pick a religion at roundstart from the pool available to the marines ( Minus Athiest, for obvious reasons. ). From his selected religion, his buffs will only affect those of the SAME religion, with quotes befitting each type of buff coming from that EXACT religion's holy text. For example, Christianity. His ' HOLD! ' buff text may be as follows.

" PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD, SO THAT YE MAY TAKE YOUR STAND AGAINST THE DEVIL'S SCHEMES! EPHESIANS, 6:11! "

Due to it requiring for those present to be WITHIN the Chaplin's own religion to RECIEVE the buff, perhaps the buff can STACK with a local SLs. Only a FEW marines out of the bunch will recieve the additional buff.

An idea for roundstart bidness. At roundstart, Marines have an option, once gearing up and the such, to either attend briefing, or go to the chapel to hear a round start sermon if a Chaplin is available. When it's time for the briefing, radios mounted on the walls of the room may be turned on so the rest of those attending mass or the such can hear the briefing, and then they all head to drop.

Thoughts?

And yes. Please, God, PLEASE. Make this a White List Only role. Only those whom have a firm grasp of Religion should play this role. The shitters who could grasp upon this and tear it down are without number.

holy fuck, even as an atheist I'd have to admit screaming quoting bible verses while in the middle of combat sounds pretty badass, +1 this

It's on the auto deny list for a reason
I can't read that list, I don't have a tooda ... A tuh... A tiera ... I don't have an account on that weird card thing ya'll use now.

Also, not a serious suggestion. S'why I don't have an account on Toblerone and this is in USCM.

I'm surprised so many people are into it though it's kind of cool. Now I want to see it and am genuinely disappointed it's on the auto-deny list given the existence of a chapel in-game and how many people think it would be a good idea (including several members of staff). I saw clown on it (at least the old one from back when you used the forum for this) but it didn't appear to deny other RP roles. What was the reason?

I'm also an atheist. I found the first commenter's hostility to be odd. Would be a lot of fun.

Sorry to anyone who I haven't replied to, I have way less time than I used to and I'm way more hungover way more often.

I have actually played those rounds and yeah they were shit. That being said I'm not suggesting adding several new roles, just one (or maybe two, the war corespondent one was pretty cool) who the area apparently already exists for. Ship's got a chapel.

Yeah, but some people actually do join just to be researcher or CL and that doesn't seem to interfere with the experience of the combat-oriented people. If anything I'd say it adds flavor.

I would really hate it if Chappy turned into a shit meme role. We do have researchers and already have a chapel though. My guess is chap could spawn in officer's quarters and have a locker in there.

Sorry all for the triple post and that I won't be replying to anymore of the previous comments (still might some of the new ones) but like I said life is dragging me away from forums more and more.

We have more than 3 marines here and enough staff that I bet we could get a mutiny approved by one of them.
