Addressing Comrades Correctly
While this might just be a personal issue of mine, I think it is severely stupid to refer to other marines by first name. But, why exactly, Banshee you un-fun prick?
In the military, everyone goes on a last name basis. The name tags on someone's chest is their last name, and everyone refers to each other by last name. Nicknames may also be used, as that's why they're there, but only their buddies would even know their nickname.
Alongside this, people referring to their Staff Sergeant by their first name makes me want to jump off a steep cliff. Not only is it wrong to refer to someone by their first name, it is incredibly strange to be so close to your Staff Sergeant that you'd know them on a first name basis. One PFC to another sitting in their bunks, I might understand (even though the last name thing is embedded into them from boot camp) but to refer to your superior NCO by their first name is a blatant disrespect for their authority in my opinion. Your Staff Sergeant is supposed to scare the hell out of you, and to be the first line of leadership in the field. Calling them 'Kevin' instead of 'Sergeant' is just stupid.
My fix is that the SLs, SOs, XOs, COs, and POs need to start enforcing a little bit more military discipline in the soldiers, otherwise they'll just keep talking to each other like buddies instead of comrades.

As a marine, I speak with everyone on a last-name basis, except fellow specs/engineers/medics, who I assume I'd be on a first-name basis with.

Yes but this requires effort and sergeant is hard to spell when in panicked combat typing mode.

Yeah, if you are calling for help and need it fast you use the fastest thing you can type.

IS THAT YOU, KEVIN? JOHNY, GRAB YER PIPE, WE FINALLY FOUND THIS BASTARD!
Jokes aside, I always call sergeants "sarge", which is way faster than looking their (soon-to-be-missing) last name or actually typing sergeant.

I call the squad leader Staff because I feel it's the most distinguishable, I'll use first names for those of similar rank or below, but officers is either sir or rank

For me, SSGTs are 'Sarge'. Anyone else and it's usually their last name or nickname. Simple as that.

I just type SL or the acronym for their role, it gets their attention faster I have found.

Re: Addressing Comrades Correctly
I go by rank/role (sarge, SSGT, SL, overwatch, engie, smartie, private), a respectful but not always formal alternative form of address (sir/ma'am, boss, officer), or last name in case their rank is similar or lower than mine.
Unless I feel like have a little intimacy. Then I use first name or a nickname.
Since we play several roles it's odd to suddenly start addressing the commander you are comrades with and shared so much (or was even your subordinate) as sir/ma'am, so I try to call by rank unless they are being informal with me as well.
In the end we are playing the branch of a spessmen game. There's a limit to how far our milsim goes, and what you can expect to enforce.

Re: Addressing Comrades Correctly
I usually just address the person by their rank, especially if their name is incredibly long or difficult to spell fast. Addressing people by their rank is totally acceptable.
Oh and please can we enforce saluting, that would be hilarious. 5 mins for disrespecting the brass?

Re: Addressing Comrades Correctly
As someone who usually is an SL, you can use whatever designation is convenient IMO. Hunter. Ocelot. Sarge. SL. Asshole, all of them work. If we're shipside and not in a combat sitch/within ear shot of the brass, you better be using the right designation, though.
