Command Tactics?

Post by Adolf_S » 29 Apr 2018, 12:16

I know there's probably a thousand topics on this but what are peoples tactics as command when it comes to different maps? Where do you set up a FOB, what squads do you normally make scout

9/10 times its best to build at LZ1 with whatever squad has the most engies.

Charlie and Delta are generally the best squads at combat so use them for scouting. I rarely play command but the best way I found to use scouting squads is to hammer and anvil the enemy if they run into the hive. Charlie holds the enemy down and Delta charges them as hard as they can. Just make sure you have a SL in delta that won't chicken out halfway through the charge since it will result in very little beno kills and mass casualties.
I play as Artemis Borovetski.
Charlie squad best squad.

Your most basic plan consists of 1 FOB squad at LZ1, a QRF at engineering for power and 2 scouting squads. This works on Prison/Big Red/Ice Colony, but not on LV, where you'd want all your attack squads at your forward outpost, most commonly Hydro.

You usually wanna send Charlie and Delta scouting, with Bravo as the QRF. Considering Alpha has the most new players, you probably want to plop them as the FOB squad if they have two engineers. If not, put whichever squad has the most engineers on FOB duty. That, or you can for example send Delta's engineers with Alpha on FOB duty and have Delta keep scouting.

The best way to wipe a hive is to flank, flank, flank. Xenos win by attrition and you want to surprise them hard. Order your most competent squad to go with another squad to open a flank while the third squad holds the enemy down, and if they pull through, you've wiped out most of the Hive and possibly the Queen. Though this is not guaranteed to work, of course. It's all about experimentation.

It's all about the flank. Xenos win by attrition, yes, and hit-and-run. If they're running back from the front to get healed and they run into marines instead, they're going to have a bad time.

Quick observations:

Xenos are really bad at holding open territory. In such positions, have all your marines mass up in a murder ball, and charge the xenos.

In dense, tight terrain like caves, your squads should split and flank, but ALL to the same location. If they are not near each other, they can't react to each others' distress, and the xenos will have no trouble wiping them out one at a time.

Also, I feel like this is common knowledge but I'll just write this down anyway :
-When the queen screeches, order all marines to charge in. that insane AoE stun is on cooldown, which is the marines' chance to do major damage.
-When (if) the queen dies, send all squads to the front, leaving a token force to hold the FoB. You have 5 minutes in which xenos have NO hivemind. use that chance.
-If at any point the ARES scan shows 11 or so xenos left, do the same as the above, push in with all squads.
-local suicidal delta PFC. No, not murry, the other one- : Oussama 'DOA' Neghiz
